Celica (pronounced /ˈsɛlɪkə/[key][2]; Japanese: セリカ Celica) is a priestess to the goddess Mila, serving at the Novis Priory under Bishop Nomah. Her true identity is Anthiese (pronounced /ɑnˈtiz/[key][3]; Japanese: アンテーゼ Anteze), the errant princess of Zofia and sole survivor of its royal family.
Biography
Before the events of Gaiden Celica was spirited away by the Zofian knight Mycen to protect her from General Desaix, and so spent her early years living in the village of Ram with Alm, the other child under Mycen's care. When this proved too dangerous,[4] she was sent to the Novis Priory, where she remained for an undisclosed number of years. Celica is aware of her status as the princess of Zofia and stays at the priory willingly.
Eventually the Valentian liberation wars break out and a liberation army forms to stand against Desaix. At this time, Celica departs the priory with a small retinue of fellow mages to finally investigate the crop failures occurring the consecutive three years prior.[5]
The first challenge Celica must overcome on her way north are numerous pirate ships, which attack Celica relentlessly. Celica eventually makes her way through the sea and to the Valentian mainland, also having gained some new allies. Celica meets a pair of pegasus knights at the port, who are looking for their abducted sister, though Celica does not help them as of yet.
Celica detours to Zofia castle and encounters Mycen and the residents of the castle, who are still celebrating that Desaix is gone. She is surprised to see Mycen there, and greets him. Celica clarifies that her goal is to go to the Temple of Mila to ask Mila why crops have failed for the past three years. Mycen is not surprised at this, and tells her that someone she may be interested in seeing is upstairs. Celica realizes that the leader of the Deliverance is Alm, and upstairs Celica and Alm reunite. They are happy to see each other after their years apart.
However, their reminiscing is cut short when Celica asks Alm to consider a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Alm says there is none; Rigel has already begun an invasion and there is no way that Emperor Rudolf would hear any negotiations. Celica disagrees, and says that perhaps Rudolf is not the evil man he is made out to be. She asks if Alm is interested in becoming King of Zofia. Alm is insulted by this, and says he only wishes to restore the Zofian throne to the missing Zofian princess, so he can return to Ram. Celica, who is aware that she is indeed the princess of Zofia, is frustrated that Alm does not wish to negotiate, and states she is leaving for the Temple of Mila.
Upon departing Zofia castle Celica is cut off from western Zofia by a landslide. Celica begins her journey north again, and encounters Palla and Catria embroiled in battle with pirates. Celica combines forces with the pegasus knights and continues her journey. Celica also meets Atlas and rescues Jesse, two locals that have had relatives kidnapped by the pirate overlord Grieth, who join her. Eventually, Celica reaches Grieth's headquarters, and rescues Est as well as Irma, a Mila priestess that had been kidnapped. Irma, recognizing Celica due to her close resemblance to her mother, gives Celica her mother's royal circlet in Gaiden (in Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Irma instead tells her that it is stored in the vault of the Temple of Mila).
Celica eventually arrives at the Temple of Mila, which she finds under the control of a priest of Duma, Mikhail. After the defeat of Mikhail, Celica enters the Temple of Mila and finds Mila absent. The temple priestesses tell Celica that Rigel attacked the temple and Emperor Rudolf sealed Mila away. Additionally, in Shadows of Valentia, they have also stolen the circlet. However, a masked knight comes in and gives Celica the circlet. Exploring the temple, Celica finds Nomah, who had managed to fall down deeper in the temple. Nomah was worried about Celica, and had tried to follow her. Celica lowers the eastern floodgate, having the authority and recognition to do so granted by her circlet, and continues north into Rigel to press her investigations.
Shortly into Rigel Celica runs into countless monsters and Duma's priests. Celica also encounters Halcyon the former high priest of Duma, now cast-out by Jedah. Halcyon tells Celica that Mila is sealed in a sword under the Tower of Duma, and that Jedah, the current high priest of Duma, will not allow her to draw near. Halcyon apologizes, and asks her if there is anything he can do. Celica only wonders if there is anything she can do to help Alm, to which Halcyon responds by blessing Alm with new power.
Celica continues north, and encounters Jedah, as well as a mogall, in person for the first time. After Celica's group kills his mogalls, Jedah is somewhat disappointed his monsters did not fare well, and warps away. Celica, not far from the tower of Duma, enters it, and after several skirmishes, encounters Jedah at its peak. Celica requests Jedah release Mila. Jedah does not particularly care about her request and instead directs Celica's attention to Alm. Through a scrying crystal, Celica sees Alm trapped and under siege by numerous Necrodragons at the Dragon's Maw in Rigel. Jedah is amused by Celica's panic, and offers her a deal: offer herself to Duma as a sacrifice, and Alm will be able to escape the Dragon's Maw. Celica agrees to these conditions and enters into the deeper reaches of the tower.
Celica and her party are trapped in Duma's Altar for some time as Alm continues his conquest of Rigel, though, eventually, Alm descends into the depths of Rigel Castle. He finds Celica fighting Duma's forces, able to talk to her through iron bars, and they converse. In the treasury, Alm finds the sword responsible for sealing Mila, Falchion, and takes it. He encounters many of Jedah's forces and finally makes his way to Duma's Altar. Celica apologizes to Alm for leaving him at Zofia castle, Alm accepts her apology, and their combined forces overwhelm Jedah and Alm finishes Duma with Falchion, ending the war once and for all.
Shadows of Valentia's versions of the events near the end are somewhat different. Celica and Alm's conversation by the iron bars is made longer, and Celica's sacrifice does end up taking place, ending up in her becoming a puppet of Duma. In the treasury, Falchion is inside of Mila's corpse, and Celica and Jedah are there as well. Jedah gloats about Celica's sacrifice, and Celica attacks Alm against her will, telling Alm to kill her. Alm does not want to do this, but kills Celica with Falchion upon hearing a voice from Mila saying to take it and trust in it. Celica is then revived by Mila, who tells them to go and kill Duma. Then, they go and fight Jedah and Duma at Duma's Altar.
Afterwards, Alm and Celica become the rulers of the united nation of Valentia as husband and wife.

Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
In the Outrealms, Celica is one of the Einherjar belonging to Old Hubba. In the Champions of Yore series, her card, and those of other legendary women from throughout the series, was stolen by Aversa and summoned to attack Chrom and Prince Marth's combined forces. After her card was reclaimed by Old Hubba, he summoned her to assist Chrom in defeating an army of male heroes led by another form of Marth. Unfortunately, Aversa conned Old Hubba into giving her the Einherjar again, forcing Chrom and the Shepherds to face off against Celica and the other legendary heroes once again. Celica reappears in Lost Bloodlines 2, assisting Alm on the enemy side. She again features as an enemy in Rogues & Redeemers 2 and 3, and upon completion of Rogues & Redeemers 2, she will join the player's army as a playable unit.
Another version of Celica is playable as a bonus SpotPass character, as part of the Gaiden character set.
Celica also has a magic tome named for her: Celica's Gale. This tome, which acts as a brave weapon, is purchased using Renown points.

If any given stat at the time of promotion is higher than their promoted class's base stat, there will not be a bonus for that stat; however, if all stats are higher, then they will receive +1 to HP.
Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Celica is the second main character of Shadows of Valentia. She starts out in Act 2 as a Priestess who can use both swords and both white and black magic, along with a Golden Dagger and the spell Fire. She has fairly decent bases, besides HP and defense, for her part of the game and has great growths in every area besides resistance, which is low for all characters in Shadows of Valentia. Because of the low resistance of most enemies in Shadows of Valentia, Celica can one round most enemies which she can double. She also learns Seraphim fairly early on at level 5, making her a great counter to the many monsters in her route, most notably the Necrodragons in Beast Hunt, and then Thunder to attack at 3-range. She also learns Recover later on, allowing her to assist even when she isn't needed for combat. Eventually, though only late in the game, she will also learn Excalibur first, and then the strongest spell in the game, Ragnarok, which is exclusive to her and Delthea, giving her a vast and powerful spell list.
If the Golden Dagger is forged three times, Celica gains her own personal weapon, the Beloved Zofia. Passively, the sword grants her the Recovery skill, healing her for 5 HP each turn. With some training she will first learn Subdue, later Swap, and finally Ragnarok Ω. All the skills are fairly useful, but nothing amazing and Raganrok comes fairly late when it isn't needed in the main story very much. The sword also requires a Gold Mark to obtain, and an additional 3 Gold Marks to fully forge, making it a very expensive weapon (for comparison, its unforged stats are similar to a 2-star Steel Sword which is 65 Silver Marks).
Despite her good combat, Celica has a fair share of flaws. As stated earlier, her enemy phase suffers as she uses swords at 1-range, meaning she will hit enemies at their higher defense stat rather than resistance like the other two mages, dealing still high damage but not always enough to one-round enemies, her promotion to Princess in Act 3 can be underwhelming due to her high growths potentially increasing her stats over her promotion bonus, and lastly, she has a very poor 4 movement which won't improve even after promotion. As Celica's route has a lot of terrain with high movement cost like swamps or deserts, she will have difficulty keeping up with the rest of her army.
Overall, Celica is a strong combat unit throughout her route. While she isn't as viable at being Act 2's main combat unit as Mae or Boey, she still provides a lot of useful tools and the stats to allow her to contribute throughout her route.
Fire Emblem Engage
Role

Celica is the boss of the paralogue The Caring Princess.

Fire Emblem Warriors
Role
Celica appears in Warriors as a playable character; she is one of the last playable characters that the player will unlock as her History Mode map, Together to the End, is only unlocked upon completing story mode. She does not appear in or have any story presence in the game's story mode. This is similar to how Lyn is implemented in the game; both characters could be seen as bonus characters.
Celica shares her moveset with Marth.

Personality
Celica is a kind and polite person, who is often bold yet refined. She is a firm believer in bringing peace without fighting, believing that fighting between one another is not the path towards peace and strives to resolve conflicts peacefully. Regardless, she is willing to fight alongside her comrades if it means protecting them. Her priority is to help others, or to acquire the strength needed for it. She is willing to fight instead of living at peace if it is necessary.[6] That is the reason she started her mission in Shadows of Valentia to begin with. Had she not done that, Rudolf's war would have continued. If she has the strength to fight for peace, she will. Only then will she reconsider how to live her life.[7]
Celica does sometimes wonder what it would be like to live a different life. However, she is glad to have chosen the path she has, because she managed to save many lives. The girl was also able to make new dear friends. Celica would not exchange either of those things for anything.[8]
Celica tries her best to help her friends outside of combat as well. She allows Atlas, Mae and Nomah to lean on her for emotional and physical support in their support conversations. Celica goes as far as to give Nomah massages despite knowing he is lying about being in pain.[9] She offers Atlas to pretend she is his sister to fill the void left by his brothers' disappearance.[10] She also gives Mae a confidence boost when she feels down about herself.[11] These conversations all show her as a caring and reliable person who puts the needs of others before her own.
Though fully aware of her status as the Zofian princess, Celica keeps this fact a secret and generally refused to acknowledge this fact outside of the Novis Priory, sharply rebuking Alm for suggesting that a Zofian princess even still lives.[12] The entirety of the Zofian royal family ordeal burdens her with the discomfort of being treated like royalty, and she does not feel she deserves the respect her birthright affords. Furthermore, she greatly despises her father, King Lima IV, for his hedonistic reign.[13]
Celica has a childish side, too, which shows in her conversations with Alm, but also Conrad. Her support conversations with her brother show Celica at her most relaxed and lighthearted.[14] She is also nostalgic about the time she spent in Ram Village with Alm and the other villagers. This shows that Celica is still a child at heart and misses the "good old days."[15]

Endings
Gaiden
Afterwards, she and Alm joined together to become the founding king and queen of Valentia.
Her kindness and wisdom helped the young king establish the foundations of the Kingdom of Valentia.
The people believed that she was the reincarnation of Mila. It is said that they never ceased to love her from the very depths of their hearts.
Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
In marrying Alm, Celica became the first queen of the One Kingdom of Valentia, and aided her king with wisdom and compassion. Believed by the people to be a reincarnation of Mila, she was universally loved for her work fostering peace in the nascent kingdom.

- ↑ Shadows of Valentia dialogue
- ↑ "Grandfather told me so. "At this rate, if you stay in Ram, Desaix will come attack the village." After that, I would be captured and killed..." — Celica recalling what Mycen told her, Fire Emblem Gaiden
- ↑ "It's already been three years since crops last grew on this land. The people are suffering from hunger to the point that they come all the way to this abbey seeking salvation. What in the world befell the Earth Goddess Mila? That, I want to make certain of myself." — Celica, Fire Emblem Gaiden
- ↑ "If it is within my power to help someone or to acquire the strength to do so...I will not hesitate to take up my sword. Even if a life of peace was offered to me, I would choose the path that allowed me to help others." — Celica, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "I am strong enough to fight as a Hero. Therefore, it is my duty to use that strength for the benefit of others. I did not cultivate that strength on my own. I was entrusted with it. So to stand idle in times of strife would be to squander that gift. We simply cannot abide war. And when the fighting come to an end and peace is finally upon us...I'll consider anew how I wish to live my life. The future holds more for me than chances to wield a blade... But until that day, I will continue to live the life I've chosen for myself." — Celica, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "Sometimes, I can't help but wonder...What kind of life would I be leading today had I never left Ram Village? I'm fighting as a Hero in the Order to protect the innocent, but had I stayed, I'd likely be plowing a field. That is what you do in Ram Village, after all. Plow, gather crops from the mountains, and live a peaceful life. A peaceful life that passes as gently and predictably as the changing of the seasons. After leaving Ram Village, I went to an island called Novis. Perhaps I would have become a priestess there... I would have been a quiet life, free of fighting of any sort. I'd watch over the church bell, ringing it at the start and end of each day. My day-to-day life would be quite different from that of a Hero. And yet, had I not taken up the sword, I would not been able to help save so many lives. And I would not have met many of my dearest friends." — Celica, Fire Emblem Heroes
- ↑ "Nomah: Bah! Stop treating me like a frail old man with one foot in the grave! ...Though I admit all this fighting DOES take a toll on my poor back.
Celica: I'm very sorry to hear it. Let me rub it for you.
Nomah: Oh... Yes, that feels wonderful... Thank you, little one.
Celica: Happy to help! Hee hee." — Celica and Nomah, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - ↑ "Celica: Well, I know you miss your younger brothers a great deal... So I thought, maybe it would help to think of me as your younger sister.
Atlas: Um... sorry?
Celica: I know brothers and sisters aren't quite the same, especially as we aren't blood, but, well, I thought it might help regardless." — Celica and Atlas, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - ↑ "I don't think you need to worry, Mae. You're a wonderful woman. You're kind and cheerful, and you always encourage your friends to keep going. You're an absolute catch just the way you are. Have confidence in yourself!" — Celica to Mae, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia
- ↑ "Alm: Besides, it seems that the royal family of Zofia's only remaining princess is still alive, so I'm planning to search for her. As soon as I find that princess, I'm returning to the village.
Celica: There's no such thing as any princess of Zofia! The royal family has already been wiped out!" — Alm and Celica, Fire Emblem Gaiden - ↑ "Nomah: Mm? You're leaving this very instant? Surely you can stay until the bell's last peal? It rings to mourn your father's passing, as you know.
Celica: I'll never think of that man as my father. Now if you'll excuse me..." — Celica and Nomah, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - ↑ "Conrad: Heh heh. Kinda funny how we keep running into each other like this, huh?
Celica: This is hardly the time for idle chit-chat, Conrad. Everyone else is fighting their hardest, and we need to do the same. Why can't you be as sharp and dashing as when you were the masked knight?
Conrad: Wait, dashing? Daaaashing? Er, one second!
Masked Knight: Any who dare lay a hand on my sister shall feel the sting of my blade!
Celica: Hee hee! Yes! THAT'S the spirit!" — Celica and Conrad, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - ↑ "You wish to know what's on my mind? Well, I was just thinking about the village I lived in as a child. Ram Village... Truth be told, I didn't live there for very long. And yet, I can recall my time there as clear as day. The shape of the hitching post in the front of the tower, the markings on the fence... I remember it all, right down to the most minute detail. Of course, it's not just the scenery I can recall...but the time I spent with the others who lived there as well. Everyone was so kind—especially the other children who played with me. Alm, Gray, Kliff, Tobin, Faye... Back then, we would spend all day running around playing all sorts of games. We were absolutely exhausted come evening time but couldn't wait to do it all again the next day. We were nothing but smiles as we'd plan tomorrow's games, sure the next day would be greater than the last. We'd all fall asleep without a doubt that this was true... Heheh, what wonderful times those were..." — Celica, Fire Emblem Heroes
