“ | I've been a mercenary since childhood. Always fighting for a bounty. If my allies didn't pay, I'd side with the enemy. It's why I became a sniper. Easier to dispose of anyone with a reward on their head. It's also why I joined the Knights of Seiros. I owned them a debt. | ” | — Shamir to Petra |

Shamir Nevrand (pronounced /ʃə'miɹ 'nɛvɹʌnd/[key]; Japanese: シャミア=ネーヴラント Shamir Nevrand) is a character appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She is a member of the Knights of Seiros.
Biography
Shamir is a master archer and a former mercenary from Dagda. In Imperial Year 1175, she participated in the Dagda and Brigid War during which she lost her partner and lover to Adrestian forces. Afterwards, she left Dagda and traveled to Fódlan, living as a wanderer up until she was found and taken by Archbishop Rhea, who provided her shelter and a regular source of mercenary work. Since then, Shamir joined the Knights of Seiros as a way to repay her debt towards the Archbishop, befriending Catherine and teaching Cyril how to use the bow in the process.
While Shamir can be found in the monastery during Garland Moon, she officially introduces herself to Byleth alongside Cyril in the following month, just as as Byleth's chosen class has been tasked with preparing the security for the upcoming Rite of Rebirth.
If Shamir was recruited during Part I, after the timeskip she returns to Garreg Mach Monastery on the day of the millennium festival and accompanies Byleth and their chosen faction throughout the war. Should Shamir not be recruited on the Crimson Flower route, she remains with the Church of Seiros and later participates in the Church's surprise assault on an Adrestian-controlled Garreg Mach after the fall of Leicester. She fails to retake the monastery, and is slain by the Black Eagle Strike Force.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Shamir is a Sniper recruitable in all routes in part 1. Her highest growths are in Dexterity and Luck, while her growths in Strength and Speed are average. Even at the earliest chance to recruit her, she has an A-rank in bows, already giving her access to all of her bow combat arts with no need for additional training, and comes as a Sniper, granting her the earliest access to Hunter's Volley out of all units in the game, a very useful boon in maddening where most units struggle to double enemies. Additionally, she comes with Close Counter and her personal skill, Survival Instinct, which boosts her strength, magic, dexterity, and speed by four points if she kills an enemy on the player phase, both of which give Shamir a strong enemy phase. Unfortunately, her offensive stats as a Sniper are occasionally too low to kill an enemy in one-round and rather lacking in maddening, meaning she will need to rely on the Brave Bow, Critical hits, or other allies to weaken enemies to activate her skill. Nevertheless, Survival Instinct is a great boon on the enemy phase, especially in White Clouds* on lower difficulties when enemies are too weak to exploit her rather low defenses and will have difficulty hitting her in the first place. Her personal skill also stacks with any buffs she has received from Special Dance or Rally skills, making her even stronger if danced to take advantage of these buffs on the player phase. However, after the timeskip, Shamir will have more difficulty activating her personal skill as enemies become much more difficult to double or one-round and become much stronger, enabling them to kill her on the enemy phase. Defensive terrain can mitigate her low defenses, but attacking from such terrain is not always an option.
Shamir has the benefit of starting in a strong class early as Hunter's Volley is a fantastic combat art, especially on maddening where doubling enemies is difficult or nearly impossible. Despite the shortcomings listed above, Shamir can excel as a Sniper solely by virtue of the Sniper's amazing combat art. As for alternative class promotion paths, Shamir can also become a Bow Knight as it allows her to attack from 4-range, thus avoiding the potential for getting counterattacked, in addition to granting her eight movement instead of five and access to Canto, allowing her to reposition herself so as to take better advantage of buffs she may have received from her personal skill. While Shamir does come with all she needs to become a Bow Knight, besides a high enough Riding rank, Shamir is potentially better off class changing into a Pegasus Knight and then promoting into a Falcon Knight. Class changing Shamir into a Pegasus Knight not only gives her a higher base speed but also grants her Darting Blow if she masters the class, granting her a boon to general combat outside of using Hunter's Volley while also allowing her to continue using bows. Upon promoting into a Falcon Knight she will have four more speed and one more strength than she would as a Bow Knight while retaining the advantages Canto and eight movement grant her. If you want to give Death Blow to Shamir instead, you can class change her into a Brigand, and upon mastering the class, make her a Wyvern Rider with the ultimate goal of promoting her into a Wyvern Lord. However, it is important to note that all of these alternate options sacrifice killing power for mobility, as Shamir doesn't have any particularly strong combat arts outside of her early access to Hunter's Volley. If you want to keep her as a player phase nuke, sticking with Sniper is the way to go.

Personality
Shamir is cold and detached, often coming across as emotionless. She does not talk a lot, preferring only to say what she finds necessary. She has no qualms with killing on the battlefield and outside of it, seeing it as a mere part of her work as a mercenary.[2][3] Many find Shamir impressive and reliable, due to her skills and professional approach to her job;[4][5][6] however, Shamir does not see herself as more important than anyone else. In her supports with Caspar, she tells him that she considers her life equally important to his.[7] Shamir's purpose for being a mercenary is to live – she has always worked for money, and she became a mercenary because her family had "too many mouths to feed".[8]
Shamir's courage matches her demeanor; she has no trouble standing up to Hubert when he threatens her in their supports,[9] and she does not express concern when she tells Byleth she noticed them putting her in dangerous situations.[10] In her supports with Claude, she casually asks him if he would like someone assassinated, showing her readiness to do her job despite the risks associated with it.[11] Shamir is always logical, and she is also thorough – a quality that she appreciates in Hubert, as expressed in their supports.[12]
Shamir is not someone who hates kindness, despite her attitude. In her supports with Alois, she tells him that caring about everyone he has killed only means he cares more about his victims than she does, which she considers admirable.[13] Her attitude is not to think about the people she kills, but she finds remembering victims acceptable, so long as these memories do not control a person.[14]
Shamir occasionally pokes fun at people.[15][16] She also gets embarrassed when she loses her cool demeanor, which usually happens when something makes her laugh or surprises her.[17] This is most visible in her support with Leonie, where she laughs at the "spider" that Leonie drew.[18] Shamir rarely knows how to behave in situations that require emotional attachment because she approaches people without a hint of emotion, an aspect of herself she is aware of.[19]
Shamir lost her first love in the Empire's war with Dagda, but prefers not to talk about it.[20] Shamir seldom talks about her homeland; she considers herself to have put it behind her, believing she has no reason to return.[21] Despite losing her loved one to the Empire's army, she harbors no resentment toward Caspar, the son of an imperial general who fought in that war.[22] In her opinion, abandoning old feuds is important, and she prefers to move on instead of dwelling on the past.[22] While she harbors a grudge toward the Imperial army, she does not extend that grudge toward people who were not directly involved.[22]
Shamir is uncertain what her future will be. She has no concrete long-term plans, though she has considered finding a permanent place to stay. As a mercenary who worked for different employers, Shamir has been an unaligned wanderer for a long time, and she does not have a true home.[23] Shamir is open to visiting new countries; in her supports with Claude, she confesses she would like to visit Almyra, as it is the furthest country from her homeland of Dagda.[24] She also encourages others to travel the world, as she does with Ignatz in their supports. Shamir refrains from sharing her own stories, believing personal experience to be more important than hearing the tales of others.[25]
Unusually for a Knight of Seiros, Shamir does not believe in the goddess.[26] Shamir treats her employment in the Knights of Seiros as a form of repaying her debt to Rhea for taking her in;[27] she finds the work itself no different from her previous work as a mercenary.[28]
Shamir does not believe in a code of honor. When questioned by Hubert on the Crimson Flower route, she admits other knights may find her leaving the Knight of Seiros dishonorable, but she does not care.[29] Shamir finds loyalty too limiting, and holds a typical mercenary attitude – if somebody pays more, it is likely she will turn to them.[30] In her supports with Catherine, Shamir complains about Catherine's loyalty to Rhea, believing it blinds Catherine and makes her "more likely to get herself killed".[31]
Shamir dislikes nobles and considers listening to them the worst part of being a mercenary.[32]
Shamir supposedly has an affinity for both men and women. She can S support male Byleth and A support many male characters in Three Houses. In Three Hopes, Shamir somewhat hints at potentially having a same-sex relationship with one of her previous employers before the events of the game as detailed in the paralogue, Mercenary Complications. When she broke off the relationship, it angers her former employer, sparking the events of the paralogue when she hires the Guardians of Fodlan to kill Shamir.

Endings
Shamir, Distant Archer (single ending)
Shortly after the war, Shamir gave up the mercenary life and disappeared. Though she was never heard from again, rumors swirled persistently for years of a master archer turned thief who lined her pockets by shaking down all those who preyed upon the innocent.
Byleth, Wandering Flame/Ruler of Dawn & Shamir, Distant Archer (Silver Snow, Verdant Wind)
Byleth announced his marriage to Shamir shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. While the king focused on the rebuilding effort, Shamir became his bodyguard and confidant. She even acted as captain of the royal guard, and became known as a watchful and trustworthy queen. As a couple, their daily lives were busy indeed, and both were famously taciturn, but it is said that they cherished their quiet time together—especially once they began to have children.
Byleth, Guardian of Order & Shamir, Distant Archer (Azure Moon)
Byleth announced his marriage to Shamir shortly after being named archbishop of the Church of Seiros. While the archbishop focused on the rebuilding effort, Shamir became his bodyguard and confidant. She even acted as a deputy captain of the Knights of Seiros, and in that capacity, became quite popular. As a couple, their daily lives were busy indeed, and both were famously taciturn, but it is said that they cherished their quiet time together—especially once they began to have children.
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon & Shamir, Distant Archer (Crimson Flower)
Shortly after Byleth and Shamir had finished their modest and stately wedding ceremony, the struggle against those who slither in the dark began in earnest. The pair fought in many battles together, and Shamir lent her talent and experience as a sniper for the Knights of Seiros to the cause of lasting peace for Fódlan. As a couple, their daily lives were busy indeed, and both were famously taciturn, but it is said that they cherished their quiet time together-especially once they began to have children.
Claude, King of Unification & Shamir, Distant Archer
After the war, Claude returned home to Almyra and took his place in the royal family. Some years later he became king, and during his reign, promoted policies to improve relations with Fódlan and protect children who had been orphaned by the war. After he achieved his goals, he left the throne to a family member and left Almyra. During his travels, he encountered Shamir, who had been wandering the world as a mercenary. It is known that they traveled together from that day forward, but where they journeyed to remains a mystery.
Hubert, Emperor's Confidant & Shamir, Distant Archer
As confidant to Edelgard, Hubert disposed of every burden facing his emperor by any means necessary, and excelled at working in the shadows. Supporting him from the front lines was the former mercenary, Shamir, who commanded the emperor's elite troops. When the two married, they appeared from the outside to be little more than a lord of the Empire and his dutiful wife. In reality, their nights were filled with fierce combat against rebels, assassins, and those who slither in the dark. It is reported that one of them was known to often state that, "To find love between life and death is a gift." It is unknown which of the two actually spoke these words.
Caspar, Roaming Instigator & Shamir, Distant Archer
After the war, Caspar and Shamir used their clout as heroes to establish a mercenary company. They branded themselves as crusaders for justice, punishing those who preyed on the weak or exploited others for their own gain. None could compete against their combined martial skill, and they became famous all throughout Fódlan. Their travels took them to every part of the world, and while Caspar's antics occasionally got him into trouble, Shamir's steady presence and firm demeanor helped to resolve matters amicably. Their stories endured as amusing anecdotes, passed down through generations.
Dedue, Taciturn Devotee & Shamir, Distant Archer
After the war, Dedue returned to Fhirdiad to support King Dimitri's reign as his vassal. Shamir was ever near, and as Dedue's trusted partner and a mercenary for the royal family, she complemented his public-facing work with by handling any necessary covert operations. The trusting professional relationship between the two blossomed into love, and soon they were married. It is said that, when absolutely no one else was around, they would let down their guard and engage in secret jokes and idle chatter.
Raphael, Beast of Leicester & Shamir, Distant Archer
Shortly after the war, Shamir gave up the mercenary life and disappeared. Raphael searched for her unsuccessfully for a time, but then gave up and returned home to serve his liege lord as a knight. One day, he was given orders to drive off a group of bandits, but upon investigation, he discovered that all of the bandits' victims were those who lined their pockets by preying upon the innocent. Without warning, Raphael resigned his post, said good-bye to his family, and vanished forever. It is unclear just where he went, but rumors swirled for years of a master archer and a hulking giant who spent their lives as highway robbers, shaking down those who made victims of others.
Ignatz, Worldly Artist & Shamir, Distant Archer
Soon after the war, Shamir disappeared. Ignatz searched unsuccessfully for her for a time, but finally gave up and went home. With hard-won permission from his family, he then set out to travel the world as an artist. Years later, he encountered Shamir by chance at an inn. When she saw that Ignatz had not yet left Fódlan, she encouraged him to leave the region, and offered to stay at his side and guard him until he did. It is rumored that he was overjoyed by this offer, and that the pair soon departed Fódlan to the west by sea, but where they traveled after that is unknown.
Leonie, The Blade Breaker II & Shamir, Distant Archer
Leonie assumed leadership of the mercenaries formerly led by Jeralt. One day, she was hired to protect a noble who had been warned of a bandit attack. The warning note listed all of the noble's foul deeds, and was signed with the image of a spider, which Leonie recognized. Just as she suspected, the one who came on the appointed day was none other than Shamir. Leonie was happy to break her contract on this occasion, and even offered Shamir a position in her company. The result was the most famous mercenary group ever to exist in Fódlan. It is said that their flag bore the image of a spider, and...another vaguely arachnid creature.
Catherine, Free Knight & Shamir, Distant Archer
After quitting the Knights of Seiros, Catherine and Shamir set out on a lifelong journey together. The pair were inseparable as they traveled across Fódlan, and eventually wound up in Shamir's homeland of Dagda. They faced many hardships on their adventures, some of which were self-inflicted, as the duo had a way of sticking their noses into others' business in their efforts to right wrongs. It is said, however, that no foe they encountered ever proved a match for the combined might of Shamir's marksmanship and Catherine's Thunderbrand.
Shamir, Distant Archer & Cyril, Limitless Potential
Shortly after the war, Shamir and Cyril disappeared from the ranks. The Knights of Seiros searched unsuccessfully for them for some time, but finally resigned themselves to the loss. Though the pair was never officially heard from again, rumors swirled persistently for years of two master archers turned thieves. Initially the knights received complaints and investigated, but when it was discovered that the pair only lined their pockets by shaking down those who preyed upon the innocent, they decided it was not an investigation worth pursuing. The thieves' story became a folktale beloved by the people.

- ↑ "There's no point in losing one life to save another. Yours holds just as much value as mine." — Shamir, to Caspar, in their B+ support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses

- ↑ "Shamir: I've also noticed that you've been putting me in more precarious situations lately. Almost like you know I won't question your orders.
Byleth: I know I can rely on you.
Shamir: Hah! I'm glad you trust me to get the job done, but still... I knew you were doing it on purpose." — Shamir and Byleth, in their B support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Shamir: Is there someone you need killed?
Claude: Ooh, so violent! Why would you jump to that conclusion?
Shamir: You went out of your way to find me. I thought you might need a favor." — Shamir and Claude, in their C+ support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Shamir: Logical through and through, aren't you?
Hubert: That is how I do things.

- ↑ "Raphael: Shamir.
Shamir: Gah! Raphael?
Raphael: All right! That went better than I thought! You make funny sounds when you're scared.
Shamir: I wasn't scared. Forget that happened." — Shamir and Raphael, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Shamir: I- What is this?
Leonie: What do you mean, what is it?! It's a spider!
Shamir: Ah, yes. I-I see now. It's quite- Well, it's- Hahaha!
Leonie: What's so funny?!
Shamir: Haaah! Phew... I'm sorry. I lost my composure for a moment there. Your drawing is absolutely ridiculous." — Shamir and Leonie, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Shamir: Calm down, Raphael. Are you really that excited to go with me? Your presence may have dimmed, but your emotions are hitting me like a tidal wave.
Raphael: Oh! Sorry! Is there a way to breathe and hide those too?
Shamir: No. That requires different training... from someone else." — Shamir and Raphael, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Shamir: It's been 10 years... Can I move on yet? Never mind. I know what you'd say.
Byleth: Were you talking to someone?
Shamir: In a sense. Someone who's long since passed. Another mercenary I fought alongside. They were killed ten years ago when Dagda was in conflict with the Empire. It's all I can focus on lately...
Byleth: Why do you think that is?
Shamir: To be honest, I blame you. Heh. I'm just teasing. I know it's not your fault. You just remind me of him. You give off a similar air... It's uncanny. You even have the same inflection, which makes no sense because we only ever spoke Dagdan. I don't know what it is, but you feel the same to me. I guess you just remind me of the past.
Byleth: I can't really help it...
Shamir: That's fair. It's not your fault. It's my fault for getting caught up in memories. Still, you always remember your first love, right? That's enough of that. There are more relevant topics to discuss." — Shamir and Byleth, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Claude: Will you be going back to Dagda?
Shamir: There is no one waiting for me there, and no reason to hurry back. Besides, I've grown accustomed to the nomadic lifestyle. I can make do wherever I find myself." — Shamir and Claude, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ 22.0 22.1 22.2 "Caspar: I was hoping we could be friends, but you fought against the Empire... You obviously have every reason to hate them, so I'm sure you don't want me around...
Shamir: What does my past have to do with you?
Caspar: My father was responsible for a lot of what happened to the Dagdans!
Shamir: Are you responsible for your father's actions?
Caspar: Well, no... but kinda? I know I wasn't there, but I gotta-
Shamir: Bring them back.
Caspar: Huh?
Shamir: If you're responsible, then bring back the lives that were lost. If you can't, then spare me your pity.
Caspar: But-
Shamir: Yesterday's enemy is today's ally. You have to abandon old feuds. Only then can you face me as a friend." — Shamir and Caspar, in their B support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Claude: What are you going to do once the war is over? Have you decided on your next place to belong?
Shamir: I haven't given it much thought." — Shamir and Claude, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "Shamir: Though, I may be interested in visiting Almyra.
Claude: Almyra? That's a bit out of nowhere.
Shamir: It's as far from my homeland as possible. That's reason enough for me." — Shamir and Claude, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "In order to know the world, you have to experience it for yourself. There is much to see. Even simple things. Flowers. Food. Varieties that don't exist in Fódlan. New smells. New tastes. I could tell you about them... But you would only imagine them, not comprehend them. If you want true understanding, go out into the world. See it with your eyes. Feel it with your skin... Speak to its people. Then you will know." — Shamir, to Ignatz, in their A support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑ "I don't believe in the Church of Seiros. It makes me a bit of an anomaly among the knights." — Shamir, to Byleth, in their C support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑ "Rhea took me in, so I became a knight to repay my debt to her." — Shamir, to Byleth, in their C support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑ "I may be a knight, but it still feels like I'm doing the same things I did as a merc." — Shamir, to Byleth, in their C support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑ "Hubert: Killing your former allies. Do you feel no remorse whatsoever?
Shamir: You wouldn't, so why ask?
Hubert: You are not me. Answer the question.
Shamir: What's it matter? I owed a debt to Rhea. I served in the Knights of Seiros to repay her. I repaid that debt. Now I'm here. I'm sure it was considered dishonorable of me to leave, but that's none of my concern. I have no connection to the Seiros faith, nor to the ways of Fódlan." — Shamir and Hubert, in their B support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses - ↑ "I've been a mercenary since childhood. Always fighting for a bounty. If my allies didn't pay, I'd side with the enemy." — Shamir, to Petra, in their B support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑ "When we're on missions related to Rhea, it's like you're wearing blinders. Wanting to help her is admirable, but you'll be of no use if you get yourself killed." — Shamir, to Catherine, in their B support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- ↑ "You deal with a lot of nobles when you're a merc. I didn't mind putting my life on the line, but I never liked having to bow and scrape to our noble employers. That's what I like about being a Knight. I get to punch all the nobles I want." — Shamir, to Byleth, in their C support, Fire Emblem: Three Houses
