“ | I no longer have a home to return to. However... there is something that I must do. | ” | — Saias |
---|
Saias (Japanese: サイアス Cyas) is the illegitimate son of Arvis and his lieutenant Aida, the elder half-brother of Prince Julius and Princess Julia of Grannvale, an heir to House Velthomer, and a full-blooded descendant of the Crusader Fjalar.[1] Perceived as a threat to the Loptr Church and its plans after his birth, Aida was murdered by Manfroy of the Loptrians while trying to protect him, and he was raised in secrecy by his grandfather Cohen.
Saias grew up to be a master tactician and, his identity hidden, was eventually appointed Velthomer's court archbishop, a position theorised by Cohen to be able to protect him out of its high status. However, the rise of Julius and the resurgence of the Loptr Church cast this into doubt in spite of the trust and reputation he had among the Grannvale nobility. In time, he came to support and assist Leif's liberation army in the Munster District.

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
Role
Saias is a playable character. In Chapter 17A, Saias appears as an enemy unit on turn 10, and leaves on turn 15. In Chapter 22, Saias appears as an enemy unit. He will leave on turn 40, if an ally unit reaches him, or if Cohen is defeated.
In Chapter 23, Saias appears as a player unit near the chapter's seize point. In Chapter 23, Saias is part of the civilian faction, and as such does not grant or receive any bonus from Authority except to himself. In the same chapter, Leif can talk to Saias, giving Leif the Bragi Sword. If, at the end of Chapter 23, Ced was recruited or any of the civilians is dead, Saias will leave the party.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Saias is a late-joining level 12 High Priest. Despite his late join time, he has many advantages that make him worth deploying. He has A-rank in staves, allowing him to use all non-personal staves in Thracia with no investment. With three action stars, he also has a 15% chance to move again after performing an action. While action stars are unreliable, they can occasionally let Saias use a staff twice in a single turn.
Saias has three authority stars (five during chapter 23), increasing the accuracy and avoid of all player units on the map by 9%. Saias is the only playable character in the game at the time of his recruitment onwards to have multiple authority stars, a distinction no longer held by Leif due to losing one of his authority stars in chapter 19. Having authority stars is especially useful in the final chapter, where many enemies have several authority stars themselves. Having the ability to negate some of them by deploying Saias is useful.
Saias's base magic is very high at 18, only 2 points away from capping. With such a high magic stat, Saias can use status staves like Sleep and Silence very well. Status staves are useful against enemy dark magic users with long-range or lethally dangerous tomes like Fenrir or Hel, or with dangerous staves such as Berserk.
Saias does not excel at combat; he comes with no combat skills other than Nihil, and his speed is not high enough to double most enemies with the weight of light tomes. Saias's HP and defense are also both low, putting him in danger when facing physical enemies. The player could use stat-boosters and Crusader Scrolls to increase his offensive growths rates to make him a competent spellcaster, but he only has 8 levels and 3 chapters for his improved growths to take effect. He is also limited to using only light magic tomes to fight, which are very scarce, and the only shop that readily sells them is encountered one chapter before Saias is recruited. He does have the rank to wield Nosferatu, useful against enemy Dark Mages, but he cannot double with it, and for the most part Saias should stay out of combat and contribute from afar by using staves.
In comparison to Ced
Saias is mutually exclusive to Ced, who is recruitable in the same chapter as Saias; recruiting Ced will make Saias leave the party at the end of the chapter. Between the two, Ced has much better combat, has more HP—which makes it harder for him to get fatigued—and is more durable as well. Saias has one more point of magic and one more action star than Ced, however those matter little, as Saias and Ced offer nearly exact utility. Saias's biggest advantage is his three authority stars compared to Ced's one. Additionally, for faster playthroughs, it takes one more turn to finish the chapter if the player desires to recruit Ced, as the event that causes Ced to appear happens after the player's first turn. Furthermore, Ced's combat is largely overkill due to the low quality of most enemies in Thracia, and other units like Galzus and Asbel will have similarly strong combat to Ced, though his improved combat is significant against certain bosses like Veld.
Fire Emblem Awakening

Saias is playable as a SpotPass character, released in the Thracia 776 character set. He is also present as an enemy in the Lost Bloodlines 1 and 3 and Rogues & Redeemers 1, 2, and 3 of Awakening's DLC.
