Gregor (Japanese: グレゴ Grego) is a traveling mercenary originally hailing from Ferox that first appeared in Fire Emblem Awakening.
Fire Emblem Awakening
Role
Gregor first appears in Chapter 8: The Grimleal, chasing down Nowi. She believes that Gregor is trying to recapture her, but he attempts to convince her and the incoming Shepherds otherwise, as he was trying to save her life from brigands. The Shepherds refuse to believe Gregor, but before the argument can continue, they are interrupted by the Grimleal, who are also chasing after Nowi to sacrifice her to Grima. Chrom decides to put the argument on hold and together, the Shepherds, Gregor, and Nowi defeat the Grimleal army. After the battle, Nowi apologizes for being mean to Gregor. With nowhere to go, Gregor suggests Chrom hire him into the Shepherds. The Ylissean prince agrees, and Gregor accompanies them for the rest of the game.
In the past, Gregor had parents who were tough on him, but they, along with his brother, were the only family he had. He became a traveling mercenary and challenged Basilio for the title of West-Khan of Ferox, but lost.[1] In a job at Wyvern Valley, Gregor betrayed his employers after he learned they were killing wyverns for their claws rather than collecting claws from deceased specimens. Gregor saved Cherche's future wyvern, Minerva, after her mother was killed by the employers.[2] In another instance, Gregor's brother (who was also named Gregor) was kidnapped and killed by bandits.[3] Gregor took his brother's name as a tribute to his memory, meaning Gregor's actual name is unknown. This also seems to protect Gregor from Tharja's curses.[4] His parents have also died, though the exact circumstances of which are unknown.[5]

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Gregor is a level 10 Mercenary starting in Chapter 8 of Awakening. From the start, he can contribute well, with great HP, strength, skill, speed, defense, okay luck, and poor resistance and magic. His growths are all high except magic and resistance. He starts with a C in swords, letting him use steel and killer weapons at base. He also starts with all of Mercenary's skill. Armsthrift gives a chance to not consume a point of weapon durability, and Patience gives ten extra hit and avoid if the enemy initiates combat.
Gregor's great growths means he will be a potent combat unit in the army, with great reclass options as well. For his base class line, he can promote to Hero or Bow Knight. Hero gives more magic and skill, retains his Mercenary growths, and gets access to axes, which has great 1-2 range option. Hero gives the skill Sol, which has a life-steal effect, and gives the skill Axebreaker for a massive boost of fifty hit and avoid against axes. Bow Knight on the other hand, gives more HP and movement, and gives access to bows for a 2-range option. For skills, it gives Rally Skill for a supportive ability to help other units with lower hit rates, and Bowbreaker for a huge boost of fifty to hit and avoid when fighting bow users.
The first reclass option is Barbarian. For growths, it increases HP and strength, but reduces skill and defense. Despoil is an okay skill that can obtain, although unreliably, gold for some extra money. Gamble is a fine skill that, being paired with his good skill stat and couple breaker skills, can afford to take the hit penalty, and get increased crit as a bonus. From Barbarian, he can promote into Berserker or Warrior. Berserker gives more HP, strength, and speed, but does not get a crit bonus like in previous games. For skills, Wrath gives a massive crit boost when at 50% HP or below, and Axefaire is great if he remains in a class that uses axes. On the other hand, Warrior gives more skill, defense, resistance, and gives access to bows for a longer range weapon. Rally Strength is one of the best rally skills, and Counter deals all damage dealt by the foe back to them.
The other reclass option is Myrmidon. Avoid +10 is useful early on, and Vantage is a neat ability to always strike first if at 50% or less health. For growths, Myrmidon has lower HP and defense growths, but a higher speed growth. This class can promote into Swordmaster or Assassin. Swordmaster gives more magic, speed, defense, and resistance for promotion bonuses, retains Myrmidon's growths aside from a slight increase to resistance, but loses the extra crit rate that it had in previous games. For skills, Astra is a great skill that can do more damage if all five attacks hit than two attacks at full damage, and Swordfaire is also amazing, boosting the damage with Gregor's main weapon type. Assassin, on the other hand, gives more HP, strength, skill, and gets access to bows for a better ranged option. Assassin' growths increase skill and speed, but reduces HP and defense. For skills, Lethality can be good if the player gets lucky, but has an unreliable proc rate, and Pass lets Gregor go past enemy occupied spaces, where the high movement of Bow Knight renders the skill immensely useful, especially if there are a large group of enemies.
As a father, Gregor passes more balanced growths, but higher increases to HP, strength, skill, and defense. He passes the useful Mercenary class line for access to two breaker skills, and allows female children inherit useful skills from the Barbarian class line, such as Axefaire, Counter, and Wrath. Some good wives he can have that do not severely hurt the child include Panne, Cherche, Cordelia, Lissa, and maybe Nowi if the player is fine with Morgan not being a Manakete. Sully and Tharja are bad wives since they want husbands that can give their child Galeforce. Miriel and Maribelle are only good if the player wants to experiment with a magical physical hybrid Laurent or Brady, and making them a Dark Knight or War Monk, letting them use all those classes tools to their fullest potential.

Personality
Gregor is very friendly, mature and amiable, and is rather knowledgeable on practical matters like healing. In spite of his maturity, he is nonetheless somewhat sensitive about his advanced age and being referred to as "uncle". Out of the members of Chrom's army, he is the slowest to feel muscular pain.

Trivia
- In the English version of Awakening, Gregor is portrayed as having a stereotypical Russian accent and refers to himself in the third person most of the time.
- In one of Gregor's supports with Lon'qu, he mentions that "knowing is half the battle", a reference to G.I. Joe.
- In Gregor's C support with Noire (if she is his daughter), in response to hearing that Tharja cursed her with a runny nose, states "What a horrible night to have curse, yes?", referencing Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.
