The Future Past 3 (Japanese: 絶望の未来3 Future of Despair 3) is a downloadable content xenologue chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. As a xenologue chapter, it does not officially bear a chapter number; if all xenologues are purchased and its list is viewed at the Outrealm Gate, The Future Past 3 is the twenty-fourth one from the top in the North American version of the game. Officially in Japan and unofficially in North America, The Future Past 3 is part of the second series of DLC releases, a distinction that does not exist in the PAL regions.
This chapter was first made available on October 18, 2012 in Japan, May 23, 2013 in North America, and June 20-21 in the PAL regions.
In this chapter, Naga tasks the Shepherds into protecting a princess and three other children in a bleak alternate Ylissean future in their quest to protect a Gemstone and the Fire Emblem long enough for the other Gemstones to arrive and the princess can perform a rite. As it turns out, the children tasked to be protected are two girls and two boys familiar to the Shepherds.

The Future Past 3/Conversations
Naga meets Chrom and the Shepherds at the Outrealm Gate, and directs them to the same Outrealm as in The Future Past 1 and 2. Naga informs the Shepherds that Lucina has recovered Vert and the Fire Emblem, but will soon be killed by Grima; Naga then sends the Shepherds to aid her.
In the Outrealm, Severa, Laurent, and Gerome return to Lucina and give her Vert and the Fire Emblem. Lucina informs them that Tiki has died; in spite of this, they resolve to travel to Mount Prism and perform the Awakening rite once the other children return. Grima then appears and threatens to kill them if they do not hand over Vert and the Fire Emblem, though they refuse. Grima attacks Lucina, but Severa, Laurent, and Gerome stop them; they encourage Lucina to flee to Mount Prism, but she is distraught about leaving more of her friends behind. The Shepherds then arrive to aid Lucina and defeat Grima.
During the battle, Severa, Laurent, Gerome, and Lucina have the opportunity to see talk to the playable versions of themselves and their parents.
After battle, if all the children survived, Robin takes control of Grima to prevent them from killing Lucina or the Shepherds, then sends the Shepherds back to their realm. In their native world, Chrom meets Naga and they both meet the spirit of Tiki, who assures them that the Outrealm will survive before disappearing; Naga deduces that this means the Outrealm has been saved, and thanks the Shepherds. In the Outrealm, Grima is rid of Robin's influence and again attacks Lucina, but is stopped when Cynthia, Noire, Nah, Kjelle, Inigo, Owain, Brady, and Yarne return with the remaining gemstones. Grima brags that the Awakening cannot be performed, as Naga is dead; however, the spirit of Tiki returns with the power of Naga. Tiki explains that the presence of Risen at Mount Prism has driven Naga's power from there, and that it has been redirected into Tiki's body, which is with them in Ylisstol. Tiki and Naga then perform the Awakening and kill Grima. Tiki congratulates the children on bringing peace to Ylisse, but having Naga's power means she must isolate herself from mortals, and her spirit fades. The children then celebrate the first night of peace on Ylisse.
Around one year later, the children gather in Ylisstol, having reformed the Shepherds. They discuss their lives in peace time as they arrive: Noire has been making charms, Kjelle and Owain have been training recruits, Yarne has been followed by conservationists, Nah has been worshipped as the new Voice of Naga, Gerome has been conserving wyverns, and Brady has been playing violin for Inigo's dancing. As they start their meeting, Lucina arrives—accompanied by the reformed pegasus knights lead by Cynthia and Severa—to see her old friends. Before the meeting progresses, Minerva notices some Risen, and the Shepherds and Cynthia rush to defeat them. Severa prepares to return to the castle, and Lucina thanks her father in spirit for the peace he enabled.
If not all of the children survived, Robin takes control of Grima and sends the Shepherds back to their realm. Robin then convinces Lucina that she will have to kill them the next time they meet, then warps away. In their native realm, Naga thanks Chrom for aiding this Outrealm. Chrom laments that he could not prevent some of the children's deaths, and Naga in turn laments that she could not do more to stop Grima.

Trivia
- The game attempts to display five total alignment–faction combinations in a space that allows for only four. Displayed are one playable faction (Halidom of Ylisse), two enemy factions (Grimleal and Risen), and one NPC faction (Other: Severa and Gerome); the second NPC faction (Halidom of Ylisse: Lucina and Laurent) is not displayed by default, leading to the illusion of the game miscounting NPC characters.
