Yewfelle
| ||||||
|
Yewfelle (Japanese: イチイバル Ichii-bal) is a regalia bow introduced in Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is the holy weapon once wielded by Ullr of the Twelve Crusaders, bestowed upon her at the Miracle of Dahna after her blood pact with a dragon. The bow is the property of Ullr's descendants, the heirs of Grannvale's House Yngvi, and can only be wielded by those in possession of major Ullr Holy Blood.
In Awakening, Yewfelle is a powerful bow that does not require any holy blood, but does require high bow weapon level to wield. In Heroes, Holy Yewfelle (Japanese: 聖弓イチイバル Sacred Bow Ichii-bal) is a bow skill unique to the Mythic Hero Ullr: The Bowmaster; it boosts its user's attack and speed, and neutralizes any effects that would reduce their Special skill cooldown charge rate.
History
When Yngvi's Lord Ring, the owner of the bow, departed for the war in Isaach, he was persuaded by his daughter Edain to leave Yewfelle behind so that she could have it on hand in case she found her missing major-blooded sister, Brigid. The two did indeed eventually meet, to the north of Agustria as an amnesiac Brigid flees her former subordinates, the Orgahil pirates. Brigid was initially disbelieving of Edain's claims as to her identity, so Edain gave her Yewfelle to use as a test. Drawing the bow reawakened Brigid's lost memories, and she joined Edain in Sigurd's forces and continued to use Yewfelle for the rest of her time with them.
After the Battle of Belhalla, Yewfelle was inherited by Brigid's son Febail, who eventually came to be employed as a mercenary by Bloom until his sister Patty convinced him to leave Bloom's employ and join Seliph's liberation army.
Millennia later, Yewfelle came into the possession of the Grimleal, and was given to its reincarnation of the Deadlord Draco. If Draco was slain, the bow could be taken by the Shepherds and used to oppose Grima. By this point, the bow is no longer sealed to the Ullr bloodline and is capable of being used by any archer of reasonable skill.

English |
Yewfelle |
A compound most likely formed from "yew" and the verb "to fell", in the sense of "to cut a tree".[1] The spelling is an archaic imitation of Middle English. The yew is a tree whose wood was a common material used for making bows. The Norse god Ullr lived in Ýdalir (lit. "yew valleys"), and so is associated with the carving of bows from yew. |
English (unofficial) |
Ichaival |
Used in the Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776 fan translations. Some sources have erroneously claimed that "Ichaival" is the name of a bow owned by the Norse god Odin, but this is false. Ichaival is not a Norse word, and no myths ever mention such a bow. This false etymology has become widespread enough for the name to be used in other media, such as the video game Smite and the anime Symphogear. It may have become widespread through this edit on the Wikipedia article "List of mythological objects". |
Japanese |
イチイバル |
Officially romanized as Ichii-bal. イチイ ichii is the Japanese word for the Japanese yew. The "bal" portion is perhaps to be short for "valley", and the name as a whole would be a translation of some sorts of Ýdalir (lit. "yew valleys").[citation needed] |
