The Dread Gate/Script
King Gustav explains that 20 years ago, he erected a barrier over a tomb that serves as a portal to the realm of the dead. The barrier has fallen, and Hel's armies now surge into Askr. He orders Alfonse to stop them at any cost. Meanwhile, Loki approaches Veronica, the latter still furious over the former's betrayal. Veronica is initially indifferent to Askr's plight, but begins to reconsider when Loki reminds her that Bruno has not returned from his quest and warns her that Hel will inevitably turn on Embla after it is through with Askr.
The Order of Heroes reaches the tomb and discovers thousands of soldiers marching on a small town only a day away. Alfonse and Anna decide to bait the enemy out and either evade or outlast them until Gustav arrives with the Royal Knights. Hel's forces catch them before they can fully prepare, and they are forced into a desperate last stand. Fortunately, Gustav and his knights arrive to relieve the Order and drive off the invaders. Afterwards, Gustav berates Alfonse for taking such a foolish risk and reminds him that he has a responsibility towards more people than those in front of him. He further reminds him that he will die someday, leaving Alfonse to become king, and that the kingdom would be thrown into disarray if he were to die prematurely. After he leaves, Queen Henriette patches up Alfonse's wounds and recalls that Gustav was once hot-headed like Alfonse before a certain incident turned him into the cautious man he is today.
