Ingrid Brandl Galatea (pronounced /'ɪŋgɹɪd ˌgælə'tiə/[key]; Japanese: イングリット Ingrid) is a playable character appearing in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. She is a student at the Officers Academy and a member of the Blue Lions.
Biography
Ingrid is the daughter of Count Galatea and a childhood friend of Dimitri, Felix, and Sylvain. She was previously betrothed to Glenn, Felix's elder brother, but Glenn died in the Tragedy of Duscur. In 1180, she enrolled in the Officers Academy at Garreg Mach Monastery and joined the Blue Lions, studying and fighting alongside them.
After the timeskip, if Ingrid is a member of Byleth's class, she returns to Garreg Mach on the day of the millennium festival and accompanies them throughout the war. If not recruited on the Verdant Wind route, she reunites with Dimitri and fights alongside him in the Battle at Gronder, where she can be circumvented or slain at the player's discretion. If not recruited on the Crimson Flower route, she is one of the defenders of Arianrhod alongside Rodrigue, Cornelia, Gwendal, and a non-recruited Felix, and is slain in battle. Ingrid makes no appearances in the story on the Silver Snow route, but it is most likely she is one of the many casualties of the Battle at Gronder.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Role
Ingrid is a starting playable character for the Blue Lions route, a recruitable unit on the Black Eagles and Golden Deer routes and a recurring enemy should she not be recruited during Part I.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Ingrid is a speed-oriented jack-of-all-trades. Ingrid has the second highest speed growth in the game, first barring DLC characters, and lacks a weakness in any particular weapon proficiency. Accordingly, Ingrid's base stats are balanced, with no outstanding stat in any particular area. Nevertheless, Ingrid still has early game options to contribute. At base, Ingrid has the most powerful early game combat art in Tempest Lance bolstering her middling strength base. Moreover, training Ingrid to a D-rank in Bows to get Curved Shot to chip at enemies from a safe distance is also an option to compensate for her middling base stats. Upon reaching level 10, Ingrid can promote into a Pegasus Knight which with its inherent Avoid +10 combined with Ingrid's high speed makes her respectably dodgy and grants her enough speed to resist getting doubled by essentially all enemy units in Part I on maddening. Ingrid also has access to Hit and Run upon achieving a C+ rank in lances which grants her +20 to avoid when initiating combat, giving Ingrid a safe option to chip and dip. Ingrid also has a fairly high charm growth, which in combination with her personal skill of Lady Knight, makes Ingrid reliable at locking enemies down with gambits. Ingrid does have one glaring weakness in her subaverage strength growth. While Ingrid can consistently double in part I, with Darting Blow if playing maddening, her strength growth will hamper her offensive output and leaves her unable to deal much damage to high defense enemies. That being said, Ingrid has options to mitigate this weakness. For instance, putting Ingrid down a more strength-focused class promotion path will raise her strength to be more or less on par with her physically-oriented classmates. Furthermore, upon achieving an A-rank in lances and swords she gets the magical combat arts of Frozen Lance and Hexblade. This in addition to having the highest magical growth of the Blue Lions when compared to the physically oriented units, at least gives Ingrid a viable offensive option against such units. It also helps that she has a good spell list: Ingrid's black magic spells have high critical hit bonuses and she has access to the powerful Fimbulvetr spell, while in terms of white magic, she has access to the useful Physic for long-range heals and Seraphim to fight monsters. As will become apparent later on, for every weakness Ingrid has, there is a solution she can run to compensate.
Ingrid also has a minor Crest of Daphnel which grants her a 40% chance to raise might by five when using a combat art. Like most crest effects, the effect is generally beneficial, though it is far from reliable and cannot be relied on to proc. Ingrid's crest also grants her access to Lúin's exclusive combat art of Burning Quake. This combat art is an excellent offensive option for Ingrid as in addition to granting eight might, the art's damage output scales with her high speed stat, granting Ingrid a strong offensive option after clearing her paralogue. Since Ingrid has a crest, she can also use any of the other Heroes' Relics without the ten HP damage penalty per round of combat, allowing her to use other powerful equipment like the Lance of Ruin, Blutgang, and Thyrsus without depleting her own HP and putting herself at risk.
Due to more or less equivalent bases and equivalent growths in strength and magic and a fantastic spell list, Ingrid can become essentially any class, whether it be physical or magic-oriented, and perform well. In order to capitalize on Ingrid's high speed and make her into a dodge tank in the late game, make Ingrid a Soldier, then Pegasus Knight, then Falcon Knight. While it is unfortunate that there is no class between the Pegasus and Falcon Knight classes, Ingrid can still perform well since the Pegasus Knight is still a great class. Moreover, you could perform side promotions during this time to get Ingrid some valuable mastery skills—i.e. the Brigand's Death Blow and the Cavalier's Desperation—or patch up any lacking stats by raising them to the bases of advanced classes; For example, a side promotion to the Paladin class is beneficial during this time as it raises her strength to a base seventeen and is easily achievable since she should already be training in lances and has a strength in riding. To patch up Ingrid's low strength early on and boost her offenses for the late game, it is best to train Ingrid in axes to become a Fighter, then Brigand, followed by Wyvern Rider then Wyvern Lord. On this path, Ingrid will end up slightly slower than she would as a Falcon Knight, though the Wyvern Lord's high strength is fair compensation, especially on lower difficulties where it is far easier to consistently double enemies. If you wish to capitalize on Ingrid's impressive array of spells, in particular the elusive and incredibly helpful 3-range Thoron, make Ingrid a Monk, then Mage—master the class for Fiendish Blow—followed by a Warlock then a Dark Knight. If you have purchased the DLC, the Dark Flier class is a viable alternative to Warlock and Dark Knight since it has Black Tomefaire and allows Ingrid to be a dodge tank while maintaining the ability to cast Thoron and Physic. If you have no confidence in Ingrid's ability to become an offensive powerhouse, you can send Ingrid on a supportive faith-oriented path by making Ingrid a Bishop to improve her healing ability with Physic. Another supportive role that she can perform solidly in is the Dancer class. Ingrid's naturally high speed and proficiency with swords, coupled with Sword Avoid +20, greatly strengthens her dodge tanking ability, allowing her to safely provide support for her allies while making her nigh impossible for enemies to hit should she be exposed during enemy phase. Ingrid's naturally high growth in Charm gives her a high chance of winning the White Heron Cup, and the Dancer class can serve as a viable fall-back option for her if the player feels that her somewhat low offensive growths may prove unstable in the long run.
Out-of-House Performance
When recruited outside of the Blue Lions, Ingrid comes with training in swords and lances and automatically promotes into a Pegasus Knight. Due to her requirements being very reasonable at a D in flying—the equivalent of five faculty training sessions—and 15 dexterity, Ingrid is among the easiest of the students to recruit, especially if you aim to promote Byleth into a flying class. Despite this ease of recruitment, Ingrid is a unit who benefits from out-of-house recruitment later on in Part I as she gets the boon of a better strength growth and can end up significantly stronger than she would in the Blue Lions; However, a late recruitment can prove to be a double-edged sword as Ingrid does not automatically gain rank in authority, meaning that with a base E-rank, Ingrid cannot equip any flying battalion when recruited and must be reclassed to equip one. Moreover, she does not gain flying rank automatically, meaning she will likely require attention in instruction sessions to get to a flying master class or to attain any class not focused on swords or lances. When recruited in Part I, Ingrid unlocks a paralogue which gives the player access to the relic lance Lúin, which, while not as powerful as the Lance of Ruin, is still much stronger than a Silver Lance and a higher hit rate than both. Considering the ease of her recruitment, recruiting Ingrid solely to obtain Lúin for a unit with Swift Strikes is well worth the effort. As a side bonus, her Galatea Pegasus Co. is also one of the more powerful flying battalions, which are usually quite hard to come by.

Personality
Ingrid wants to become a knight, and is described as already possessing a serious nature and knightly air, even Dimitri describes her as "more knightly than most knights". However, her dreams are hampered by possessing a crest. Due to being the only heir of House Galatea that possesses a crest, Ingrid's father desperately wants her to marry in order to preserve the house's future, sending her letters constantly reminding her of his wishes. While she is exasperated by his insistence and wants to be rid of the burden in pursuit of her own dreams, she is nonetheless grateful to her father who took care of her at his own personal expense, giving her anything she wanted and needed while depriving himself of even the modest basics of living and meals. Despite his insistence, Ingrid's father is shown to cancel any marriage prospects if they could harm Ingrid in any way.
One of Ingrid's fiancé's was Glenn. As she admired Glenn as a knight and harbored romantic feelings for him, his death in Duscur deeply affected her, making her even hold a deep grudge against the people of Duscur. She however does get over her dislike of Duscur after learning about how kind and loyal Dedue is to Dimitri. Glenn is still a sore subject to her, even getting angry at Dimitri and Felix for not appreciating his sacrifice enough.
Ingrid gets easily distracted by delicious food, to the point she once hid in a tower to eat. She is also very tomboyish, mentioning how she's never worn makeup. Ingrid has a very strict training routine that she expects others, such as Bernadetta and Sylvain to follow, show by her breaking Bernadetta's door down so she doesn't skip training.
Ingrid is childhood friends with Sylvain, Felix and Dimitri, however her loyalty to Byleth is far greater than to her friends, family and country.

Endings
Silver Snow, Verdant Wind, and Crimson Flower
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight (single ending)
When Galatea territory was seized, Ingrid argued strongly for the preservation of its borders. Her request was granted, and she was appointed to rule. From her new position, she gave her all to ensure that the people of Galatea lived peaceful lives and put in years of hard work to reform its farming practices. Her efforts bore fruit, to the people's delight, and Galatea became a land of plenty.
Byleth, Wandering Flame/Ruler of Dawn & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight (Silver Snow, Verdant Wind)
Byleth announced his marriage to Ingrid shortly after becoming leader of the United Kingdom of Fódlan. Together they made great strides toward restoring Fódlan to its former glory and beyond. Though Ingrid contributed to the court in her position as queen, she also famously guarded her king in a physical capacity. Most well-known is how the "Warrior Queen" drew her own weapon to repel an assassin's blade meant for her husband, a tale which lived on in chivalric storybooks for generations.
Byleth, Wings of the Hegemon & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight (Crimson Flower)
When the war at last came to an end, Byleth and his wife, Ingrid, relocated to her hometown. Galatea territory had been seized by the Empire, but the emperor granted Ingrid's request to retain governance of it. She and her husband were initially received with skepticism, but together they worked hard to reform the territory and address its food shortages. Through hard work, pure grit, and a truly knightly dedication to the people, they were able to transform the barren landscape into what would, decades later, become known as the most fertile grounds in all of Fódlan.
Claude, King of Unification & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
Entrusting the future of Fódlan to his friends, Claude left for Almyra with Ingrid, whom he intended to marry. He announced this fact to his father, the king of Almyra, who approved of Claude's strength and Ingrid's virtue and resolved to entrust the monarchy to them. Even after they ascended the throne, Claude and Ingrid argued frequently. But while the queen chasing the fleeing king through the palace was a common occurrence, the couple must have loved one another deeply, for they happily raised many children together.
Felix, Meandering Sword & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
Even after the war's end, skirmishes continued to break out across Fódlan. Learning that there were still places where he could fight, Felix abandoned his noble title and chose to make a living with his sword. Unwilling to leave him to travel alone, Ingrid, too, relinquished her claim to nobility, and they both became wandering mercenaries. They skirted the line between life and death countless times in their dangerous work, but once they had a child, they settled down in a small farming village far from their homeland. With all but each other left behind, they began a warm and tranquil life as a family.
Ashe, Arrow of Justice & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
When Galatea territory was seized, Ingrid argued strongly for the preservation of its borders. Her request was granted and she was appointed to rule, but because she had previously abandoned her noble house, she was not well accepted by the people at first. It was thanks to the help of Ashe, who arrived to serve House Galatea, that she was able to soften the view the people had toward her by restoring the territory and improving its agriculture. As Galatea's prosperity grew, so too did the love between Ingrid and Ashe. Their wedding ceremony was intended to be a simple one, but lavish blessings from the citizenry made it a lively event.
Sylvain, Sincerest of Knights & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
As Margrave Gautier, Sylvain devoted his life to improving relations with the people of Sreng. Under his leadership, nobles were persuaded that Relics and Crests were not necessary as they'd previously thought. Though he went down in history as an extraordinary lord, he could not have done so without the constant support and counsel of his wife, Ingrid, whose wisdom and tenacity ensured that the people would prosper. Sylvain was ever loyal to his beloved wife. The couple had many children, and while not one of them bore a Crest, they were all equally and wholeheartedly loved.
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight & Raphael, Beast of Leicester
When Galatea territory was seized, Ingrid argued strongly for the preservation of its borders. Her request was granted, and she was appointed to rule. Soon after, Raphael traveled there to pledge his service to Ingrid. He initially signed on as a knight, but quickly discovered that his services were even more desperately needed by the land's farmers, and instead focused his efforts on helping Galatea improve its agriculture. Seeing him work side by side with the commonfolk, Ingrid became enamored with Raphael's character, and eventually asked for his hand in marriage. They held a modest but lively wedding, and the people happily gave their blessing to the union.
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight & Ignatz, Worldly Artist
When Galatea territory was seized, Ingrid argued strongly for the preservation of its borders. Her request was granted, and she was appointed to rule, but because she had previously abandoned her noble house, she was not well accepted by the people. It was thanks to Ignatz that the mood of the people finally softened. He showed them, through his artwork, a side of Ingrid that they had not yet seen: her valor and bravery, fighting in defense of Fódlan. The people were moved, first by the artwork itself, and later by the woman who had inspired it. As time passed, and the region prospered, Ingrid and Ignatz bonded over their reunion. They fell in love and eventually were wed.
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight & Yuri, Underground Lord
When Galatea territory was seized, Ingrid argued strongly for the preservation of its borders. Her request was granted, and she was appointed to rule. Though, since she had previously abandoned her noble house, she was not well accepted by the people. Despite this, she found that the commonfolk carried out her policies with unexpected enthusiasm and efficiency. She soon discovered that it was Yuri who had convinced them of her wisdom. The two were reunited and eventually married, and under their stewardship, Galatea territory flourished. It is said that, after a busy day of governance, Ingrid yearned for nothing more than a home-cooked meal prepared by her husband.
Azure Moon
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight (single ending)
Ingrid declined to rule House Galatea, choosing instead to serve House Blaiddyd as a knight. After achieving widespread renown, she formed an elite order of pegasus knights who served as personal bodyguards to the nobility. She never took a husband.
Byleth, Guardian of Order & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
Byleth announced his marriage to Ingrid shortly after succeeding Rhea as the new archbishop. Together they made great strides in helping to restore the Kingdom of Fódlan to its former glory and beyond. Though Ingrid provided counsel to the archbishop as his wife, she also earned renown as a Holy Knight of Seiros. Most famously, she parried an insurgent's blade with her own weapon just before it struck the archbishop's neck. Tales of the archbishop who ended the long war, and his valiant wife Ingrid, lived on in storybooks for generations.
Dimitri, Savior King & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
After his coronation, Dimitri assumed the throne of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and spent his life ruling justly over Fódlan. At his side every step of the way was Ingrid, who left House Galatea to serve House Blaiddyd as a knight. As they worked together to restore the Kingdom, the pair fell in love and were eventually married. But while Ingrid was happy to play the role of queen, and to support her husband in public and in private, she insisted on taking up a weapon and serving on the front lines in battle.
Dedue, Taciturn Devotee & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
After the war, Dedue and Ingrid both served as protectors to the newly crowned King Dimitri: the former as his loyal vassal, and the latter as a knight sworn to House Blaiddyd. The pair fought side by side on countless occasions, and were known to be inseparable on the battlefield. Tales of the taciturn vassal and the steadfast lady knight were told by bards all throughout Fódlan, and it is said that their friendship helped spark the reconciliation between the peoples of Faerghus and Duscur.
Felix, The Shield's Successor & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
After the war, Felix inherited the title of Duke Fraldarius from his late father, Rodrigue. He married Ingrid, the daughter of Count Galatea, and the couple spared no expense in restoring both their territories, paying special attention to Galatea's desperate need for food and funds. Some years later, there was an attack on the castle town, and the duke lost the use of his sword arm from an injury sustained protecting his wife. It is said that he never regretted it, as he was only fulfilling a promise that he made to his beloved wife a long time ago.
Ashe, Arrow of Justice & Ingrid, Stalwart Knight
When the new king was crowned in Faerghus, both Ashe and Ingrid left their homes to travel to Fhirdiad and pledge themselves to the royal family as knights. They each swore to defend the king, come what may, no matter the cost, and to that end they fought side by side in many battles together. They were both praised for their endless devotion and boundless courage, and their names went down in history as peerless knights. Many tales were told of their valor, and how they became indispensable to each other over the years. A handful of those stories went so far as to suggest that they fell in love and became husband and wife, but this may have been an embellishment.
Raphael returned to his home town to serve his liege lord as a knight, and spent his spare time helping out at the inn that his grandfather and sister had opened during his time away. One day, Ingrid, who had abandoned her claim to House Galatea to serve as a knight to the royal family, arrived to persuade Raphael to join her. It did not take much convincing. From that day forward, they served together as partners, fighting together side by side to make their mark on the history of Faerghus.
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight & Ignatz, Worldly Artist
Ingrid declined to rule House Galatea, choosing instead to serve House Blaiddyd as a knight. Some years later, she was reunited by chance with Ignatz, who had persuaded his family that he should become a painter and traveled all through Fódlan painting beautiful landscapes. Ignatz decided to paint Ingrid that day, and spent much of the rest of his career working to get her likeness just right. There were many depictions of her bravery in battle, of course, but later generations would most fondly remember the way he captured her smile, which was widely believed to be that of a loving wife.
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight & Seteth, Ally of the Archbishop
Ingrid declined to rule House Galatea, choosing instead to serve House Blaiddyd as a knight. As Faerghus worked with the Church of Seiros to advance policy, Ingrid served as an envoy between the two. In this capacity, she met routinely with Seteth, whose complete trust in Ingrid resulted in fruitful negotiations. Together, Faerghus and the church coordinated extensive relief efforts to return prosperity to Fódlan. After they had accomplished what they set out to do, it is said that Ingrid and Seteth settled down together in a small village, where they spent their days in peace, farming and fishing.
Ingrid, Stalwart Knight & Yuri, Underground Lord
Yuri disappeared into the underworld of the western Kingdom and faded away into obscurity. The only account of him after that comes from a Kingdom knight's journal, uncovered many decades later, which tells of Yuri's efforts to win the king's support for an orphanage and medical clinic to be built in the slums of the castle town. It is believed that the journal belonged to Ingrid, who had declined to rule House Galatea in order to serve House Blaiddyd as a knight. According to a local rumor, Ingrid eventually retired from knighthood to become the owner of an inn. There, it is said she and the man she wrote about cooked dishes loved by rich and poor alike.
