Five Gemstones (Japanese: 五つの宝玉 Five Gemstones) is the twenty-first chapter in Fire Emblem Awakening. In this chapter, the Shepherds have fallen into Validar's trap and must escape Plegia Castle. The chapter's aftermath sees Robin manipulated into doing Validar's will, and Lucina having to make a difficult choice.

Five Gemstones/Script
As the Shepherds travel through the Plegian wasteland, Lucina sees what resembles Grima's skull, and remembers a time in the future where she confronted him; she resolves that she cannot allow him to be revived. As they arrive at Plegia Castle, Robin notices and points out to Chrom armed soldiers hiding from them. When Validar and Aversa enter, Chrom asks for Gules; Validar calls Lucina an intruder and demands the Fire Emblem. When Chrom refuses, Validar orders his soldiers to seize the Shepherds as they flee from Plegia Castle.
As the Shepherds near the exit, Validar appears and attacks Chrom. When Chrom refuses to grant him the Fire Emblem, Validar brings Robin under his influence and uses Robin to steal the Fire Emblem, leaving once done. As they leave the castle, Robin asks to be left behind as Validar's influence is a threat to the Shepherds, but Chrom puts his faith in Robin, stating that Validar couldn't take total control, something they could use to their advantage. Later, Lucina takes Robin aside; having seen what Validar can make Robin do, Lucina concludes that it was Robin who killed her father in the future. Lucina presents her intent to kill Robin, who may accept or reject her judgement, but Chrom intervenes and stops her before she can kill Robin. Chrom states that the bonds they share are too strong for Validar to break, and assures Lucina that Robin will not betray them.
- Note: the exact way Lucina confronts Robin, and how Chrom intervenes, changes based on their relation, with three possibilities: Robin married Chrom and is thus Lucina's mother, Robin married Lucina and is her husband, or neither and Robin and Lucina share no direct familial tie; in any case, the overall outcome is the same.
Summary
Instead of handing over the Gemstone, Validar manipulates Robin to steal the Fire Emblem. The Ylisseans barely escape the castle alive.

Trivia
- This chapter is one of few chapters in the game where the preparations theme doesn't play during that phase of setup. In this case, the music from the preceding cutscene continues onto the battle preparations screen.
- Plegia Castle is one of five locations on the world map that connects to only one other location (in this case, only to Plegia Castle Courtyard), and as such is a dead end. The other four are the Outrealm Gate, Law's End, Warriors' Tomb, and Grima.
