SpongeBob SquarePants is the title character of the eponymous series and the main character of Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years. He or some version of him has appeared in every episode of SpongeBob SquarePants (with the exception of "BassWard") and every episode of Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, giving him the most appearances out of any character in the franchise.
Even though SpongeBob is the series' protagonist, he does not play a major role in every episode and is sometimes reduced to a supporting, minor, or cameo appearance. "BassWard" is currently the only episode where absolutely no likeness of SpongeBob is seen or mentioned whatsoever. SpongeBob's only non-verbal appearances to date are in "Reef Blower," "Whale Watching," "Lockdown for Love," and "A Skin Wrinkle in Time." The main-universe SpongeBob is also technically absent in five episodes: "The Algae's Always Greener," "Welcome to Binary Bottom," "Dopey Dick," "Plankton and the Beanstalk," and "Snow Yellow." In these episodes, different counterparts of SpongeBob take his place (Alternate-Universe SpongeBob, SpongeBot, SpongeHab, SpongeGoose, and Snow Yellow).
In some media outside of the main series and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, SpongeBob is absent. For example, he is frequently absent in The Patrick Star Show, due to the spin-off focusing on Patrick Star instead. He is absent in several shorts as well. SpongeBob does not make an in-person appearance in any of the stand-alone specials, as those only feature him appearing in archive footage from past episodes.
