"The Patrick Show Cashes In" is a The Patrick Star Show episode from season 2. In this episode, The Patrick Show! sells merchandise in order to fund its second season.

Characters[]

Synopsis[]

The Patrick Show Cashes In 016

Cecil suggests an episode centered on himself.

The episode opens with Perch announcing the premiere of The Patrick Show's Season 2. Patrick hypes up the audience and starts the show before Squidina comes in and pulls the plug due to a lack of budget, making everyone leave in disappointment. The family comes together to think of ideas for the second season that could bring in more money, but GrandPat interrupts to look at the unofficial merchandise a kid outside is wearing. He steals the merch and Squidina is struck with an idea.

A commercial starts advertising Pat the Hapless and Beelzebass toys. The Pat toys have a battle ax, and the Beelzebass toys have lasers in their armpits. In the next commercial, Squidina advertises Patrick's art pieces, "Rainy Monday on a Tuesday," "Self-Portrait," and "The Number Three." Squidina demands a new painting and Patrick creates a highly-detailed one out of just his face.

The next commercial features Cecil and Bunny dressed as kids advertising The Patrick Show Cereal. Patrick ends up eating the whole thing and then features another product, "Oopsie Doodle! Just Prizes." Another commercial plays in which Captain Quasar tries to sell Pat-tron, even going as far as to offer payment in return for taking him off his hands. The scene abruptly cuts to a commercial advertising the city of Shmandor.

The next advertisement is for Patrick Show t-shirts. Patrick uses a military grade t-shirt cannon to instantly deliver the t-shirts to a family, but before he can give one to the dad, Perch Perkins shoots Bermuda shorts at him. Patrick and Perch then engage in a battle, ending with Patrick being sent into the Bureau of Bureaucracy.

Inside the Bureau of Bureaucracy, Bobby Babbington is upset about the unsafe toys the Patrick Show has been producing. He travels to the Star house and confiscates all of the dangerous toys, but Squidina sends him inside a commercial advertising the Bobby Babbington action figure. He is amazed at it and decides to give back all of the toys he confiscated.

Inside the Star residence, The Star family now has a whole pile of money. Patrick takes it to the official Patrick Show brand money counter, which is actually just a wood chipper. All of the money is destroyed, but the Stars realize that shows aren't just about money. Just then, Rubedor shakes the house inside a glass ball, ending the episode on an advertisement for the Patrick Show snow globe.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • This episode was originally going to premiere at 1:00pm, but it was later moved to 5:00pm.

  • This episode was paired up with a rerun of "Patrick's Prison Pals" during the original American airing.[14]
  • This is the first episode where Dee Bradley Baker voices the Bouncer.

Episode references[]

  • The burst used for when the Bobby Babbington action figure appears is reused from the second half of "Terror at 20,000 Leagues."
  • Cecil being shown with acne in the cereal commercial might be a reference to "Survivoring," where he mentions still having acne.
  • On the home shopping channel, the phone setup is the same as in "Pat-a-thon," complete with Bunny using the one on the bottom right.
  • The Patrick Show audience contains King Neptune, who was revealed to be a fan of it in "Neptune's Ball."
  • Bubble Bass is the only one not excited for the season premiere, referencing his dislike of the show from "Bubble Bass Reviews."

Cultural references[]

  • The Nickelodeon splat logo can be seen on the bulletin board and ideas in Patrick's room.
  • The "Oopsie Doodle!! Just Prizes!" cereal is a reference to the real-life Cap'n Crunch cereal "Oops! All Berries!"
    • The entire cereal sequence was cleaned up by storyboard artist Amanda Donahue to channel her "inner 90s kid" with Cecil and Bunny's bedroom and outfits,[3] with a dash of the 1993 film The Skateboard Kid and Lisa Frank added in.[4]
  • Twice in the episode, the as seen on TV end screen used in commercials is used.
  • The underarm laser of the Beelzeboss doll is similar to the eye laser of the Balthazar Bratt doll from Despicable Me 3.
  • The scene where a live-action version of Squidina's hand points at the number "5" as its sponsor references Sesame Street.

Errors[]

The Patrick Show Cashes In 061

Miscolored Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

The Patrick Show Cashes in layering error

The anchovy overlapping the table.

  • In the opening shot of Patrick's cereal commercial, a Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy comic can be seen. However, Mermaid Man is completely brown, while Barnacle Boy is colored blue.
  • The anchovy who uses the toaster is layered above the table for a frame.
  • When the Star family get all the money they need to fund the second season, the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy posters are nowhere near the time machine, but after Patrick puts the money in and takes it to the official Patrick Show brand the posters are near the time machine, exactly where they should be.
