“ | She's got good taste. In women as well as men—got a problem with that? | ” | — Laslow, to Silas on Soleil's flirting. |
---|
Soleil (pronounced /soʊˈleɪ/[key][2]; Japanese: ソレイユ Soleil) is a character in Fire Emblem Fates. Soleil grew up in a secluded realm. Soleil is the daughter of Inigo, and was born during his time in Nohr as "Laslow".
Fire Emblem Fates
Role
Soleil is the daughter of Laslow, retainer of the Crown Prince of Nohr, Xander. Since Soleil was conceived during the war, her parents thought it best to place her in the Deeprealms in order to protect her from the conflict; however, time in the Deeprealms flows much quicker than in the realm where Nohr and Hoshido exist, meaning that in a relatively short span of time, Soleil reached young adulthood and departed from her Deeprealm to lend assistance to the common people of Nohr as a Mercenary.
By the time Paralogue 21 is played, Soleil's band of mercenaries appear to have built up a reputation of always smiling, even in difficult situations. At the beginning of the paralogue, Soleil and her mercenaries are celebrating their apparent victory over the bandits that were invading an unnamed walled town; however, their celebration proves to be premature as the bandits return with reinforcements, ready to exact revenge for the shame they suffered by her hands. Despite the overwhelming odds against her, Soleil forces herself to smile in order to ease the worries of her fellow mercenaries and prepares herself for the difficult battle. Fortunately, Corrin's army is nearby and hears of the attack on the town. Upon hearing a description of the mercenary band, Laslow recognizes that their leader is in fact his daughter and rushes to her aid, with the rest of Corrin's army in tow.
Corrin's army manages to rout the enemy and protect Soleil, allowing for Laslow to properly reunite with his daughter. In light of Soleil's skill on the battlefield as well as her positive attitude, Silas invites Soleil to join Corrin's army, noting that her cheery demeanor could lighten the dour mood that often pervades the army. Soleil is overjoyed at the thought of spending more time with her father and gladly accepts Silas's invitation.

Analysis
This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience. |
Soleil starts out as a level 12 Mercenary at the earliest in Conquest, and as a level 20 Mercenary at the earliest in Revelation. As a child unit, her base stats, growths, stat mods, and pair up bonuses vary depending on her mother. One of the things that is the same on all routes and parents is being a Mercenary, and having its starting skills. Good Fortune gives a luck% chance to heal up to 20% of her max HP at the start of player phase, and Strong Riposte gives an extra three damage when being counterattacked. Her personal skill, Sisterhood, gives her an extra two damage dealt, and minus two damage taken when supported by a female ally. She also always starts with the same inventory, being an Iron Sword, Vulnerary, and Offspring Seal depending on when she is recruited, and the minimum weapon rank of D, but this can be increased depending on when she is recruited.
Corrin is an interesting mother, as she passes variable growths, mods, and pair up bonuses depending on her chosen boon and bane stats. She also passes the Nohr Princess class and its promotion of Nohr Noble. Both can use swords, meaning it's great for sword-oriented Soleil. This class tree offers great skills: Nobility for extra experience, Dragon Fang for a chance at extra damage, Draconic Hex for great debuffs, and Nohrian Trust for access to her pair up partners offensive trigger skills. On Revelation, she has the alternative promotion of Hoshido Noble, which has Dragon Ward for a chance for an adjacent ally to have reduced damage, and Hoshidan Unity for an extra 10% proc to her skills.
Felicia is not the greatest mother. She still gives Soleil a great strength growth, and decent growths in all areas except magic and defensive stats. Troubadour and Strategist still don't offer high magic growths, and it's skills generally aren't worth using this pairing. Maid can be nice for Tomebreaker though.
Azura and Selena are decent mothers for Soleil. They both pass great growths, with Azura passing higher strength, magic, skill, speed, luck, and resistance growths, and Selena passes higher HP and defense growths. On the topic of mods, Azura is more focused in strength, speed, and skill, but has a -1 defense mod, while Selena is more balanced and has all positive mods. They both pass the Sky Knight class tree, which has great skills for any combat unit. Darting Blow gives extra speed when initiating combat, Rally Speed can give extra speed to other units, Warding Blow gives a great resistance boost on player phase, and Air Superiority gives a huge boost to hit and avoid against flying units.
Mozu is a great mother for any unit, since Aptitude gives a 10% increase to all growths. Villager also has access to Underdog, which gives extra hit and avoid if the unit is lower in level than the opponent, which is great if she starts falling behind. Villager can also promote to Master of Arms, which has the great skill of Life and Death. It gives an extra 10 damage to attacks, though this comes at the cost of the opponent also gaining +10 attack. However, Mozu is a high demand mother, meaning she might not be picked for Soleil.
Elise passes serviceable magic and strength growths, making both magical and physical classes viable. She also passes good growths in other areas, but lower than average HP and defense growths. This pairing also gives Soleil positive strength and magic mods, but the -3 defense mod is troubling. Soleil's best class, with Elise's Troubadour inheritance, is Maid. She has equal strength and magic growths, and gives support with Demoiselle, Rally Resistance, Inspiration, and Rally Skill from Bow Knight. Note that this is another pairing that can result in access to Tomebreaker.
Effie passes great growths and mods, with the worst parts being lowish HP and resistance growths. Passing Knight may result in Soleil becoming a tank, as her defense growth is a high 57.5% in Knight and its promotions. Generally, Knight's skills may not be worth the reclass unless the player wants Indoor Fighter sooner. Defense +2 is not going to be useful for long with Soleil having access to more useful combat skills, except if it lets her reach a certain defense threshold for taking zero damage. This pairing is most useful for the skill access from Great Knight, which can also be a serviceable combat class if the player wishes. Luna has a chance to half an enemy's defense or resistance in one strike, and Armored Blow gives a +10 to defense on player phase. As a side note, General's Wary Fighter is not great for her unless she gets heavily speed screwed, and Pavise is unreliable to be used well.
Nyx is another magical mother, but at base, does not give Soleil a good magic growth. Soleil will need to reclass to Dark Mage and Sorcerer to improve her magic growth. All her other growths are fine, except HP, luck, and defense are a little low. From the skills that Soleil gains access to with this pairing, Heartseeker, Vengeance, Bowbreaker, and Lifetaker are the highest skills of interest. This pairing should generally result in Dark Knight Soleil as to not waste the magical potential Nyx gives.
Camilla and Beruka give good growths in all areas, where Camilla passes better growths in strength, magic, speed, and resistance, and Beruka passes better growths in HP, skill, luck, and defense. Camilla also overall has better mods with a +3 in strength and +4 in skill. Beruka is a bit more balanced in mods aside from her -2 speed, but she has a +5 in skill, which is nice. They both pass the amazing Wyvern Rider class tree, which is one of the best combat classes in the game. Strength +2 is one of the better stat booster skills that can stick around for longer, and Lunge is neat for additional movement options. The main promotion of Wyvern Lord also has great skills. Rally Defense is another great rally skill, and Swordbreaker is a breaker skill, granting a whopping +50 to hit and avoid when fighting swords. This effectively negates weapon triangle disadvantage. Malig Knight also has useful skills, but they can be skipped if the player does not want to use them. Savage Blow deals chip damage to surrounding enemies, and Trample deals +5 damage to mounted units.
Peri is a great mother as well, passing solid growths and mods, and passing the Cavalier class tree. Cavalier's skills are pretty good, and may be worth the Heart Seal, as Elbow Room is nice, and Shelter is the main reason, as it allows the rescue command similar to older games, which is great to rescue vulnerable units. Great Knight has the good skills of Luna and Armored Blow. Paladin is the unique Cavalier promotion choice, and has the great skill of Defender, which grants extra stats when paired up. Aegis has the same problem with Pavise, being an unreliable activation rate.
Charlotte is another great mother, providing solid growths in non-defensive stats, and having solid mods aside from the -2 in defense and resistance. A Fighter inheritance may seem bad since Fighter can also promote to Hero, but Berserker is an excellent combat class. Rally Strength as a powerful rally skill, and Axefaire is very useful to boost damage. This pairing tends to leans more towards either Berserker or Hero Soleil.
Orochi, on the surface may look bad, being magical, while Soleil is physical, but this is not really the case. Soleil still has an decent strength growth, her magic growth becomes good when reclassing to magical classes, and she has all her growths in the 40% range aside from her magic growth without class growth modifiers. The worst part is the modifiers, with having a -2 in both speed and defense. However, to make up for this, she has a +2 strength, +4 magic, +1 in luck and resistance, and a whopping +5 in skill. With this pairing, Basara is the way to go. She has equal strength and magic growths, and gains access to Rend Heaven for a decent chance for extra damage, especially with her high skill growth and modifier. She can still perform well in her usual classes and easily get their important skills, and she should definitely get Tomefaire if the player plans on her becoming a Basara.
Hana is probably her best mother on Revelation specifically. She does give a lowish HP and defense, but her huge strength, skill, and speed growths make up for this. She also possesses good mods in many areas, but the -3 defense mod may pose an issue. Her Samurai inheritance has access to incredibly useful skills, being Duelist's Blow for a big avoid boost on player phase, and Vantage for the ability to strike first if Soleil is at half or lower HP. Swordfaire from Swordmaster is the best skill Soleil could possibly want, and she can also gain Life and Death from Master of Arms as well in this pairing. Any class that can use swords is Soleil's best final classes with this pairing, and this can also make for a more formidable Master Ninja. Combining Swordfaire from Swordmaster, and Shurikenfaire from Master Ninja, boosts the damage of both of her weapon types, making this a scarily good combo.

Soleil enjoys talking to cute girls. She also does not care if people see her half naked while changing clothes, saying in her support with female Corrin that she does not have the same sense of embarrassment on the topic than other people because she does not care what other people think, and focuses on what she wants in the moment.
Soleil also has a hard time learning to dance, hating when others catch her trying to dance. She also states in her and Dwyer's B support that she would much rather have people see her in her underwear than watch her dance.

Trivia
- While her father's hair is gray, her official artwork depicts her as having pink hair like her grandmother.
- In the Japanese version of Fates, Soleil's supports with male Corrin revolves around Corrin slipping her a powder which causes her to see men as women. The international version has Soleil donning a blindfold and envisioning men as women instead.
