Gazak (Japanese: ガザック Gazakku) is a Nohrian scoundrel lurking in a town near the Nohrian royal castle and the entrance to Forrest's Deeprealm, and the capturable boss of Paralogue 16 of Fire Emblem Fates. Not much is known about Gazak, as a generic Ruffian appears to take the leadership role of the chapter's ruffians, but Gazak is ultimately defeated by Corrin and his/her army. As a capturable boss, Gazak can be captured by Niles or Orochi and placed into the My Castle's prison if one is present, then recruited into the player's army as a bonus unit from there.

Gazak is also alluded to in Paralogue 19, where Percy convinces a mercenary group that his father, Arthur, is actually Gazak.

Analysis

This character analysis section may not be accurate to every player's experience.

Gazak is one of the more unique and interesting capturable bosses in that he serves two completely different functions depending on when his map was done and when he was captured. This is because, as a captured unit, he keeps the stats he had as an enemy, and the growths used to scale him as an enemy are vastly different to his playable growths.

If captured early, Gazak will have more time to make use of his personal growths, including his massive 65-75% DEF growth, good growths in HP and STR, as well as solid growths in SKL and SPD. This also tends to be the more logistically feasible route as a heavily-scaled Gazak can be difficult to capture; Niles may be unable to survive a single hit and thus Gazak's offenses must first be neutered by stacking Silver Star Axe's penalties, a process that can take many turns and expend a sizable amount of healing staves, even before considering Niles' mediocre offenses and Gazak's high HP and throne boosts. An early promotion gives Gazak the option to go Hero instead, which has higher SKL, DEF and LCK growths that help with his reliability, as well as provide both Sol and Pavise to turn Gazak into a physical tank with the offenses to retaliate hard. Additionally, since his LCK basically doesn't scale as an enemy, reclassing to Hero can also somewhat patch up his CrtAvo issue to the point where he can face 0 Crit from some lower-Crt enemies with a Pair Up.

If captured late, Gazak will mostly be reliant on his bases, which are fueled by the generic Berserker growths instead of his own personal growths. Despite this, however, he should still be captured no later than Chapter 25, as if he is captured any later he will be too overleveled to learn Axefaire in time without spending 12k on an Eternal Seal. As the generic growths he used to scale most of his stats have superior STR/SKL/SPD, Gazak will turn out as an offensive powerhouse, possibly with S-Axes innately as well. However, this comes at the cost of his durability, as the generic growth on DEF is a mere 35%. Nonetheless, innate access to Certain Blow fixes the accuracy issue that otherwise plagues Berserkers, and turns Gazak into an excellent offensive powerhouse with high offenses and quick access to Axefaire. He one-rounds very reliably with a Brave Axe and can potentially one-shot squishier enemies with a Tomahawk if given Pair Up/Rally support, and if given the Dual Club, can with matchups against Swordmasters and Sorcerers. However, this comes with a major vulnerability; a lack of CrtAvo, which is a flat 0 when he joins due to Berserker's innate penalty. He faces crit against almost anything, although this is lessened by his role as a player-phase attacker. Still, caution must be taken in spite of Pavise, and he may need to be Bifrosted in the last few maps of the game.
