Wario Land Super Mario Mario Kart Mario Party

Seagulls are a species in both real life and Mario-related media alike. Their first appearance in Mario-related media is Wario Land II, though Yoshi-specific seagulls named Goonies debuted in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island shortly prior.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Seagulls are white-feathered birds.

Behavior[]

Seagulls are typically decorative elements flying around in beach areas, just as in real life. In some games, seagulls have a role in gameplay, most commonly as platforms.

In Wario Land II[]

Gulls[1] are a harmless species found in certain levels, flapping their wings in one place in midair. Gulls first appear in Get in the Tea Cup. Wario can use gulls as platforms, although when touched, the gulls fly away before returning shortly afterwards. Although they are not enemies, gulls can be defeated if Wario performs either a Dash Attack or a ground pound on them, but they respawn if Wario leaves and re-enters their area.

In Game & Watch Gallery series[]

Game & Watch Gallery 3[]

Albatrosses appear in the Modern version of Donkey Kong Jr. They look very similary as in Wario Land II, aside from a different palette. When the titular character gets the key on the second stage, an albatross appears. The albatross is usable as a platform, although it flies away for a short time regularly. With precise timing, Donkey Kong Jr. can jump on the albatross and use it as a platform to reach Donkey Kong's cage.

Game & Watch Gallery 4[]

Albatrosses have the same role in the Modern version of Donkey Kong Jr., but with a graphical update. In the Modern version of Fire, an albatross sometimes appears in the background during sunset.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Sunshine[]

Seagulls are decorative elements appearing only in the background of Isle Delfino, but a flock of them can also be seen on the title screen.

Super Mario Galaxy[]

Seagulls fly around in the background of beach-themed galaxies, and there are flags in the Sea Slide Galaxy that show a seagull eating a mushroom. The only time they are seen on the ground is during the hidden cutscene with Rosalina in the Gateway Galaxy.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

Seagulls have the same role as in Super Mario Galaxy, but some seagulls flock around Starship Mario as if it were traveling on the ocean.

Super Mario 3D Land[]

Seagulls appear in the background of beach-themed courses. They only fly around and never land on the ground.

Super Mario Odyssey[]

Seagulls appear in the Seaside Kingdom, taking the role of small birds from other kingdoms due to the sea-themed setting. Seagulls fly away when approached by Mario or if Cappy is tossed towards them. Contrarily, if Mario falls asleep, Seagulls may flock near him, and one may even roost on his nose.

This is the first game of the Super Mario series in which a Seagull has a role during gameplay, particularly during the objective "Bird Traveling Over the Ocean," in which Mario has to hit a glowing seagull to obtain its Power Moon.

Seagulls later appear in the Mushroom Kingdom with all other types of birds once Princess Peach and Tiara are rescued.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[]

Cat-eared seagulls appear throughout Lake Lapcat in the Bowser's Fury campaign only. They are similarly skittish to the seagulls in Super Mario Odyssey, flying away if Mario or Bowser Jr. comes near, if a Green Shell is kicked or thrown at them, or when rainfall begins before Fury Bowser becomes active.

In Mario Party 8[]

Seagulls are seen mostly in the background of Goomba's Booty Boardwalk, but whenever Captain Goomba gives a Star to a player, he orders seagulls to return them to the start of the board.
