Swoopin' Stus are an enemy in Super Mario Sunshine

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Swoopin' Stus are transparent jellyfish-like creatures. Swoopin' Stus have a round, translucent body, a set of small tentacles or fringe to move around on, a pair of eyes, a small cluster of hair on top. Swoopin' Stus have a ball of goop contained within their body, and they appear in a variety of colors, including red, blue, light blue, green, purple, yellow, and orange, as well as different sizes.

Behavior[]

Swoopin' Stus spawn from goop puddles. When this occurs, it briefly moves forward before exploding into a small puddle of goop. If a Swoopin' Stu notices Mario, it begins to slowly move in his direction. Swoopin' Stus cannot move fast. If a Swoopin' Stu is close enough to Mario, it begins to flash white, meows like a cat, and jumps in Mario's direction, exploding on impact while also leaving goop behind.

Swoopin' Stus most commonly appear in battles with Polluted Piranha Plants, appearing in as early as Delfino Airstrip, as they repeatedly spawn from a Polluted Piranha Plant's Generator. Mario can defeat a Swoopin' Stu using a blast of water from FLUDD, which also clears away goop. While Mario can also jump onto a Swoopin' Stu, this leaves behind a puddle of goop from which more Swoopin' Stus can spawn. However. if Mario jumps onto a Swoopin' Stu while it is in midair, it can be properly defeated, as it does not spawn a goop puddle. A Swoopin' Stu sometimes drops a Water Bottle upon being stomped.

  • In beta versions of Super Mario Sunshine, Swoopin' Stus had a wider bottom, no head tentacles, and they did not make any sound. They did not even turn white to let Mario know they were pouncing.
  • In the Mario Portal website as well as the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, they are named Goobles. The name "Gooble" was first used on the leaderboard in Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour.
