A Pineapple is a recurring type of fruit in Mario and related media. It first appears in Donkey Kong Circus.

In Donkey Kong franchise[]

Donkey Kong Circus[]

The gameplay involves Donkey Kong having to juggle pineapples while balancing on a barrel.

Donkey Kong 64[]

Pineapples are featured as projectiles shot from Chunky Kong's Pineapple Launcher. A Pineapple Switch can only be activated by shooting a pineapple at it.

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat[]

A giant pineapple appears at the end of every level of its titular kingdom, Pineapple Kingdom. Just as with any fruit within their respective kingdom, Donkey Kong must bite into the Pineapple to end the level.

Pineapples have an explosive variation named Blood Pine, which have the same body as a regular pineapple but with an added laughing expression.

In Yoshi[]

Pineapples appear after levels 16 through 18 of the B-Type are cleared. A Pineapple rewards the player 800 points.

In Mario franchise[]

Super Mario Sunshine[]

Pineapples appear as a fruit for Yoshi to eat. Upon eating one, Yoshi becomes orange, and his Juice meter is filled, allowing it to turn enemies into orange stationary platforms.

There is a large pineapple on a rooftop in Delfino Plaza, blocking the red Warp Pipe that leads to Sirena Beach. The course cannot be accessed unless Yoshi eats the large pineapple to unblock the Warp Pipe before they can progress. Unlike regular pineapples, this pineapple does not change the Yoshi's color or fill its juice meter.

Mario Party 4[]

Pineapples appear in the Bowser minigame Fruits of Doom, as one of the potential fruits on Bowser's list.

In other media[]

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show![]

In the episode "Too Hot to Handle," a pineapple patch grows on Waki-Waki. Mario, Luigi, and Toad throw the pineapples at the Shy Guys in the same manner as vegetables are thrown in Super Mario Bros. 2.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie[]

Pineapples, along with watermelons and bananas, can be seen in a fruit cart while Toad is escorting Mario through the Mushroom Kingdom.
