Pull Stars are an object in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Description[]

A Pull Star resembles a small blue Launch Star. The player can use the cursor to click the Pull Star to drag Mario a certain distances to areas, many of which are otherwise unreachable. A chain of Pull Stars is called a Pull Star Path.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Galaxy[]

There is a Pull Star in every dome of the Comet Observatory. Using one of them pulls Mario to one of the different galaxies.

Aside from this, Pull Stars also appear in several galaxies themselves:

  • Good Egg Galaxy: Located in A Snack of Cosmic Proportions.
    • The first set is uncovered after Mario talks to the Blue Luma who mentions the Hungry Luma ahead.
    • The second set is created after Mario finds five blue Star Chips. He needs them to get to the Power Star at the centre of the star frame planet at the end.
  • Space Junk Galaxy:
    • Pull Star Path/Pull Star Path Speed Run: Mario must use the Pull Stars to make his way through the Galaxy. The first set leads from the starting planet to a group of three glassy orbs and is punctuated by a single octogonal prism crystal. The second set leads from a rocket to a T-shaped tower.
    • Tarantox's Tangled Web: Same location for the first set, but the chain leads to a glassy planet that has a maze inside it. The second set is adapted out this time.
  • Battlerock Galaxy:
    • Battlerock Barrage: Two Pull Stars will appear for Mario to get to the Launch Star that leads to the Battlerock itself once five blue Star Chips are found in the starting area.
    • Breaking into the Battlerock: A mine cluster must be navigated this way.
    • Topmaniac and the Topman Tribe: Mario needs to use a Pull Star Path to leave the starting area. These Pull Stars are available for him from the start.
  • Sling Pod Galaxy:
    • A Very Sticky Situation: The two Sling Pod segments are separated by a Pull Star Path that goes through a cluster of mines.
  • Ghostly Galaxy:
    • Luigi and the Haunted Mansion: A Pull Star Path serves as Mario's bridge for crossing over a pit that leads to a balcony riddled with spike traps. Mario needs to grab the key by falling off the middle Pull Star and quickly grabbing it to avoid getting his rear skewered.
    • A Very Spooky Sprint:
      • The first chain replaces the now-destroyed bridge that bridged the gap between the Boo Mansion Gate Planet and the mansion itself.
      • Mario needs the second set to get through the race course as he and the Spooky Speedster face off.
    • Beware of Bouldergeist: A Pull Star Path pops up when Mario grabs the five blue Star Chips that are scattered around the backside of the stone tower. It leads to a Launch Star that leads to a bouncy sphere planet.
    • Purple Coins in the Bone Pen: Mario needs these to navigate a cluster of bones that contain the 149 Purple Coins so he can get them.
  • Buoy Base Galaxy:
    • The Floating Fortress: Upon collecting the five blue Star Chips that were scattered around the tower, Mario can use this to get to the next planet which resembles a Pokéball and contains the Power Star.
  • Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada:
    • Sinking the Airships: Mario needs these to break his flight from Skyship to Skyship.
  • Gusty Garden Galaxy:
    • The Dirty Tricks of Major Burrows: To access the secret metal ring planet that has the thorny walls, Mario needs a Pull Star to break his flight from the question mark planets.
  • Freezeflame Galaxy:
    • Freezeflame's Blistering Core: Getting the five Star Chips around the starting planet will lead to a ring of five Pull Stars popping up above the planet in a perfect pentagon formation, allowing access to the Launch Star in the middle of the formation.
  • Dusty Dune Galaxy:
    • Blasting Through the Sand/Sandblast Speed Run: Upon finding five Star Chips on the ring-shaped planet with the sand river, Mario will summon a Pull Star path that leads to a ball with sand flowing from north to south.
  • Gold Leaf Galaxy:
    • Star Bunnies on the Hunt: Mario will summon a Pull Star Path that leads to the Launch Star that serves as his gateway to the next planet that requires catching a Star Bunny by finding five blue Star Chips around the starting planet.
  • Sea Slide Galaxy:
    • The Silver Stars of Sea Slide/Hurry, He's Hungry!: Around the Starshroom are Pull Stars that Mario can use to get one of the Silver Stars.
  • Toy Time Galaxy:
    • Bouncing Down Cake Lane: Mario needs to grab one to break his flight from the Cannon upon navigating the frozen area.
  • Dreadnought Galaxy:
    • Revenge of the Topman Tribe/Topman Tribe Speed Run: Mario needs to get five blue Star Chips to make his way to the Launch Star that leads back to the Dreadnought itself. There is another set that goes between a pair of walls that have cannons that must be navigated to get to the Dreadnought's runway, which in turn leads to Topmaniac's saucer.
  • Melty Molten Galaxy:
    • The Sinking Lava Spire/Burning Tide/Lava Spire Daredevil Run: Mario needs to get through the region with the small balls of lava this way. The Launch Star at the end leads back to the Solar-esque starting planet, although Mario will land in a different spot.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

The Pull Star appears in a few galaxies:

  • Bowser's Lava Lair: After Mario defeats the first Magikoopa, the Pull Star appears, allowing him to continue. This applies to both missions.
  • Space Storm Galaxy: In both missions, Mario must use the Pull Stars to get to a Launch Star above the Starting Planet's moon.
  • Grandmaster Galaxy: In both missions, after Mario leaves the planet with the pull stars, he will land on a planet composed of brown squares, and must get to another similar planet by using Pull Stars. The latter bears the Launch Star that Mario needs to get to the final planet.
