Super Mario Mario Party

Skull Boxes (also known as Torpedo Bases) are a semi-recurring object in the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario World.

Description[]

A Skull Box is a black artillery and variant of a Bill Blaster containing a gloved hand that individually sends out Torpedo Teds at Mario, Luigi, or another character. In Super Mario World, a Skull Box's hand is four-fingered, but in New Super Mario Bros. U, it is five-fingered.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario World[]

Skull Boxes only appear in one level, Soda Lake, along with Torpedo Teds themselves. Like other obstacles, Skull Boxes cannot be destroyed.

Super Mario Galaxy[]

Here, they are named torpedo tubes and were given a redesign. Torpedo tubes exclusively appear in Buoy Base Galaxy, mostly underwater. Unlike before, a torpedo tube can now be destroyed by luring a Torpedo Ted right back into it.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Skull Boxes, as well as Torpedo Teds, make a reappearance, functioning the same as in Super Mario World. Both Skull Boxes and Torpedo Teds appear in Larry's Torpedo Castle. Skull Boxes are absent from New Super Luigi U, although Torpedo Teds are not.

Skull Boxes were given a variation named Red Skull Boxes, which launch out Targeting Teds, a homing variation of Torpedo Teds.

In Super Princess Peach[]

Skull Boxes make a reappearance, functioning identically as in Super Mario World, but can now also launch Glad Torpedo Teds. Skull Boxes appear in Subrella segments of levels, and both they and Torpedo Teds first appear in the level Wavy Beach 5-5.

In Mario Party 10[]

Skull Boxes appear in the minigame Blooper Blastoff, where they launch Torpedo Teds.
