Stingby is a bee enemy which first appears in Super Mario 3D Land.

Profile[]

Physical description[]

Stingbies resemble a bee, but a quirk is that their stinger is on their face.

Behavior[]

They chase after Mario and Luigi when they are encountered and the Bros may defeat it by jumping on top of it or by any powerup. These enemies are located mainly in sky levels and can only fly straight unlike other bees which can fly up and/or down.

In Super Mario series[]

Stingbies are first introduced in Super Mario 3D Land, encountered in World 2-4, and appear as common enemies in other various levels.

They later return in Super Mario 3D World, and its Nintendo Switch port, where they are first introduced in the World 1 level, Switch Scramble Circus. In the Bowser's Fury side mode, a cat-verion of Stingbies, known as Cat Stingbies, also appear in the game.

In Super Mario Maker 2, they can be placed as enemies in the Super Mario 3D World style. They can also be given a Super Mushroom to turn them into Big Stingbies.

In Mario Kart 7[]

Stingbies are obstacles in the battle course Honeybee Hive. They fly around in formations, and will knock out any fast-approaching karts.

*In Mario And Luigi: Paper Jam*

While normal stingbies do not appear in Mario and Luigi paper jam, a unused paper variant known as Paper Stingby

Trivia[]

  • A similar enemy called an Urban Stingby appears in Super Mario Odyssey. They at first appear in a larval form, but then grow to their adult form once Mario comes nearby. At that point, they charge. If they hit something, be it friend or foe, the Urban Stingby will self-destruct, dealing damage to anybody near the impact.
