"The Koopas are Coming! The Koopas are Coming!" is the thirty-fifth animated episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It is paired with the live-action segment "Zenned Out Mario."

Plot[]

Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad arrive in the Thirteen Mushroom Colonies to meet up with George Washingtoad in Valley Forge. The Colonists are revolting so that they can start their own new country which will make freedom for all Mushrooms. While George Washingtoad explains their dire situation, Red Coat Koopa (King Koopa's alias during the episode) appears, along with a Flurry, and mocks the Marios for their inability to stop him. George Washingtoad threatens to calls his army, but Red Coat Koopa reveals he has frozen the army, and then freezes the Marios' group as well. Mario manages to free himself by jumping onto the stove and melting the ice. He then proceeds to free his companions.

The Princess gives Mario a Fire Flower so that he can free the rest of the army but Red Coat Koopa plans to attack at dawn and it'll take hours to thaw the whole army. Since the people need to be warned and Mario has to stay to thaw the army, Luigi is selected to sound the alarm. In a reference to Paul Revere's Ride, Luigi rides out shouting "The Koopas Are Coming! The Koopas Are Coming!" Unfortunately, a group of Beezos hear and attack him. Luigi is captured and taken prisoner.

As dawn approaches Mario continues to thaw out the army but has only managed to free a few members of the army. Realizing that they would be outnumbered if Red Coat Koopa attacks, Mario gets the idea to make a sneak attack from behind. However, to do this, they must cross the Delawide River, which is partially frozen.

Meanwhile Red Coat Koopa is ready to attack and even rejects the idea of a sneak attack from behind. However, he is soon surprised by General Washingtoad's army. After a quick battle, Mario manages to get a Fire Flower and once again become Super Mario, which gives him an advantage over the Red Coat army. Luigi manages to wrestle Red Coat Koopa's Ice Scepter from Flurry and Mario uses it to freeze Red Coat Koopa's army winning them the war.

Back at General Washingtoad's camp, Mario and Luigi are made official Uncles of the new country.

Trivia/Goofs[]

  • The episode's title is a spoof of patriot Paul Revere's famous warning to the colonists, "The British are coming!".
  • The episode is a parody of the people, sayings, and events of the American Revolution, more specifically the sneak attack that started the Battle of Trenton.
  • It's strange that the Princess would aid a rebellion to make a new country since she is the legal monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • When Mario jumps into the bucket of water to cool himself after defrosting, his right sleeve turns into his skin color, then soon changes back to blue.
  • Flurry is shown to have a mouth twice, once when he talks to Bowser and also when he tries to get the scepter out of Luigi's grip. Typically, he doesn't show a mouth even while speaking.
  • As a swarm of Beezos arrive, the overhead view of Luigi appears to be Mario's Fiery form.
  • At one point Mario is shown to be shooting fireballs from his hand but his clothes is that of regular Mario.
  • When Mario is freezing the Koopa Troopas the screen turns black.
