Take a Breather is a 4-player mini-game in Mario Party 4.
Layout[]
The minigame takes place at a wooden dock platform out in the sea. At each corner of the wooden board is a small, wooden stump, each having a blue pennant with a star printed on it. This same dock also appears in Rumble Fishing, except the pennants are red.
Opening[]
A view of the sun is shown, then the view pans down to show the character on the wooden dock.
Gameplay[]
The characters to take a deep breath and try and stay underwater longer than their opponents. At first, the characters are given five seconds to breathe in air from the player using the 
and 
buttons. After the time is up, the characters go underwater. Each character automatically surfaces to the water after holding their breath for long enough. Whoever holds their breath underwater for the longest is the winner. If every character fails to hold their breath for long, the minigame ends in a tie.
If a character manages to holds their breath for seven seconds, a Boo plate is added to the Present Room.
