The Genie Lamp, also named the Magic Lamp, is an item in the Mario Party series. It made its debut in Mario Party 2 and made its latest appearance in Mario Party: The Top 100. This item was succeeded by the Wiggler Capsule/Flutter Orb and Star Pipe/Golden Pipe in later installments (Mario Party 2 through 7, DS, Super, and Superstars).

Appearances[]

The Magic Lamp debuted in Mario Party 2 as a rare item that the characters could either purchased from the Item Shops, or win in an Item mini-game. When a character uses the Magic Lamp, a Mushroom Genie will appear out of the lamp and ask the character to ride on his back. The genie will then take the character to the nearest Star Space. Even though the genie takes the player to the star space, they must still pay the 20 coin fee to buy the star. The item returns in Mario Party 3 and Mario Party 4 with the same effect, although the latter features the Genie of the Lamp instead of the Mushroom Genie. In Mario Party 3, instead of taking the user of the Magic Lamp around the world like in Mario Party 2, the Mushroom Genie takes them through a dimension to the Star Space.

In Mario Party 3, there was a counterpart of the Magic Lamp. That is, the Lucky Lamp. Instead of taking the player to the star, the player would summon the Mushroom Jeanie and she changed the star's location. This item continued until Mario Party 4. In Mario Party 5 through 7 and Mario Party DS, Super, and Superstars, this item was succeeded by the Wiggler Capsule/Flutter Orb and Star Pipe/Golden Pipe. It costs 30 coins in Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 4, but it is cheaper in Mario Party 3 at 20 coins.

Mario Party: The Top 100[]

Neither of the two genies appear in the game but the player is veiled by a puff of smoke that takes them to the Star Balloon.
