Dolphins are a recurring real-world animals within the Mario franchise. They made their first appearance in Super Mario World. Dolphins are friendly creatures who are generally happy to assist Mario, Luigi, or another protagonist on their adventures. Dolphins are similar to their real-world counterpart.

A Dolphin is generally depicted as being blue and wearing yellow or brown goggles.
In Super Mario World[]
Dolphins appear in Vanilla Secret 3 and Chocolate Island 1, where they help Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi travel across the water. Yoshi can eat a Dolphin in the Japanese version of the original Super Mario World and the Game Boy Advance remake Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World.

Dolphins appear in an episode of the Super Mario World show, "Mama Luigi." Here, during a part of Luigi's bedtime story to Yoshi, two Dolphins help him and Yoshi evade a Torpedo Ted targeting them and take them to a beach.
