A Jump Block, also known as a Music Block, a Note Block or a ♪ Block, is a type of bouncy block that allows Mario, Luigi, or another character perform a very high jump into the air. Jump Blocks make their first appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3.
In the Super Mario series[]
Super Mario Bros. 3[]
Jump Blocks can be used to jump high by pressing the jump button as the player is launched upward. A Jump Block occasionally contains a power-up or Starman for the player if they bounce on it or hit it like an Exclamation Block.
Hidden in some levels is a special variety of pink Jump Blocks named Magic Note Blocks that catapult Mario or Luigi to Coin Heaven. Two of the World-e levels in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 consist entirely of Jump Blocks, Magical Note Blocks and A Musical Trek.
Super Mario World[]
Jump Blocks retain their purpose from Super Mario Bros. 3.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]
There are blocks with the same behavior but a different appearance named White-Green Checkered Blocks.
Super Mario 3D Land[]
Jump Blocks make their debut in a 3D Mario platformer titled Super Mario 3D Land, in which they serve the same purpose. Jump Blocks also make musical sounds and notes appear when jumped on. Rainbow Jump Blocks also appear, and they still send Mario to a Coin Heaven area.
In Mario Party 5[]
Jump Blocks are in the Mario Party 5 mini-game Bound of Music, where each player has to jump and hit the most Jump Blocks. However, the Jump Blocks are invisible.
In Mario Superstar Baseball[]
These blocks also appear in Mario Superstar Baseball in the Peach Garden field. If a baseball bounces on top of it, the batter may score a homerun.
In Mario Kart 7[]
Unreachable Jump Blocks appear in Music Park in Mario Kart 7.
In other media[]
These blocks also appear in the television series The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, in which some have a ♫ instead of a ♪.
