Baby Dragoneels are smaller purple variants of the Dragoneel which appear in New Super Mario Bros. U. They can be found in certain underwater coves, and just like their adult counterparts, Baby Dragoneels chase after Mario or another character if they are nearby. Baby Dragoneels are typically invulnerable to most attacks, except for a Starman.

In New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Baby Dragoneels appear in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, but are one of few enemies in these games to not appear in New Super Luigi U as well.

Baby Dragoneels only appear in one level, Dragoneel's Undersea Grotto, where they guard the final Star Coin. Two Baby Dragoneels arrive once the Star Coin is obtained and slowly chase after Mario, being babies, they move slower than a regular Dragoneel. The only way to defeat a Baby Dragoneel is with a Starman, they can be hit on the head with the effects of a Fire Flower to temporarily stun them but hitting them anywhere else along the body will only make them speed up.
