As its name suggests, this shark has a hammer-shaped head. Apparently, this makes it more sensitive to electric signals then other sharks.

— Fish-o-pedia description, Sonic Frontiers[1]

The hammerhead shark[2] (ハンマーヘッドシャーク[3][4] hanmāheddo shāku?), also known as simply the hammerhead[5] and Hammer (ハンマ[6] hanma?), is an animal that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a shark that can be caught during the Fishing Spot minigame.

Description[]

A hammerhead shark is a large, predominantly gray animal with a white underbelly. It has a wide head shaped like a hammer, with eyes on both ends of it. It has four flaps, the two gray front ones are much larger than the white back ones. It has three fins: The triangular one at the top curls at the back and points towards the direction of its tail. The rear upper one is shaped like a diagonal square, while the lower one is a smoothly curved semi-circular shape. Its tail has two notable points at the top and bottom and is shaped like a chevron. Hammerhead sharks in Sonic Adventure share semi-cartoony appearance with round eyes and pale brown color scheme.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

In Sonic Adventure and its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, the fish species is known as hammerhead shark (ハンマーヘッドシャーク[3] Hanmāheddo Shāku?) with additional nickname Hammer (ハンマ[6] Hanma?), as listed in Sonic Adventure: Navigation Guide. In gameplay, hammerhead sharks are found in Emerald Coast and Hot Shelter during the Big the Cat's playthrough, and catching one hammerhead shark will grant about 800 to 2,000 points.[6][3]

Sonic Frontiers[]

In Sonic Frontiers, the hammerhead shark is one of many collectible fishes to be earned in the Fishing Spot minigame hosted by Big the Cat. Depending on its location, it is worth a varying amount of Treasure Tokens: catching one at the Eastern Fishing Spot is worth 24 tokens[7] and catching it in the Southern Fishing Spot is worth 48 tokens.[8]
