2-3 shares the basic Cyber Space theme along other stages, while presenting floating locations strongly resembling Chemical Plant. As such, there are tons of mechanical buildings and tubes throughout the setting. Much like other Cyber Space stages, many half-pipe lines and chunks of cubes are seen in far distance of the red skies with rapid, blue digitized sparks being spotted on the screen during the gameplay to represent the digitized atmosphere of the stage.
Portal location[]
In Ares Island, the entrance Portal to the Cyber Space stage is located in a dip north of the Tank. An Ancient gate at the north-west of the first area may need to be unlocked first to reach the tunnel leading to this Portal. 1 Portal Gear is also required to unlock this Portal.
Gameplay[]
2-3 is entirely 2.5D, with a few auto-running segments in 3D. In this level, Sonic will be encountering Balloons, Accelerator Guns, Grind Rails (one of which acts as a loop), 3/4 Loops and ramps, while the majority of lower routes will have some spike pits, some of them retractable, and the occasional Spiny.
Overview[]
The stage starts with Sonic jumping out of the Portal Gate. At the end of a ramp is a pit with a Accelerator Gun in the middle of a gap to the Grind Rail road above it and some unbreakable crates. Past the next few walls, The player will need to boost and hold right while going up a double slant to reach the Dash Ring. Homing Attack the spring to guarantee the landing atop the wall.
Sonic will zoom down the road via the Dash Panel towards another Accelerator Gun. Use the jump button to save time, and do a Homing Attack on the Balloons along with the wide spring. A Dash Ring guides them to the end of the split. Run down the road towards the Accelerator Gun, and follow the button shown on the screen, which will take Sonic to the Star Post.
From this point, the player must Boost along the quarter-slant and then boost again just below the Dash Ring to go through it and reach the platform with the spring. If Sonic falls, the end of the pit has a chain hidden behind some breakable containers. The player can then choose to take the rail above or continue below; If they take the lower route, they will need to be wary of the Spinys that patrol the floor. Homing Attack the Balloon and reach the Dash Ring towards the looped rail. At the end of the rail, he'll grind towards another Accelerator Gun. Press the action button and Homing Attack the blue Balloons and the spring. Repeat the same process for the next Accelerator Gun Sonic encounters, taking the Jump Panel at the end of the platform. Perform a Homing Attack on the last few Balloons to make it to the Portal Gate, otherwise Double Jump over the spike pit and take the floating platforms to reach it.
Sonic will ride down some slants into an Accelerator Gun. Press the action button to receive the second Red Star Ring up ahead.
Continuing from there, after Sonic runs up the quarter-slant, Boost to reach the Dash Ring. It leads to the platform with the third Red Star Ring on top.
Homing attack the Balloon to reach the looped Grind Rail. Ahead of that is the fourth Red Star Ring.
Take the Accelerator Gun across, then homing attack the Balloons, spring and the Dash Ring. Press the action button when in the Accelerator Gun after the 3/4 loop to retrieve the fifth Red Star Ring.
Trivia[]
Despite this stage's song title being "Nostalgic Sweep" this stage ironically, and perhaps unintentionally, features a completely unique level design.
