There must be something to this big Hanging Bell. Try ringing it and see what happens.

Omochao, Sonic Generations (console/PC)[1] File:Gens omochao-bell.ogg

The Hanging Bell[2] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a large hanging bell that can be rung to trigger different effects.

Description[]

Hanging Bells are large, stereotypical bells resembling church bells. They are easily a couple of meters tall and have a golden coloration. They always hang from a support inside large buildings. In gameplay, the player can hit the bells with the playable characters to make them ring, which will trigger an effect beneficial to the player. What effect occurs depends on the game.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

SHKNUCKLES1

Knuckles under a Hanging Bell, from Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut.

The Bells first appeared in Sonic Adventure, and later in its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut. In this game, they are slightly more oblong than in other games, and only appear in Speed Highway. When hit, they drop a limited number of Rings for the player to pick up.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)[]

Bell (06)

A Hanging Bell, from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), three Hanging Bells are found inside three towers around Soleanna Castle Town, though they do not trigger any effect on their own when rung. In this game, they can be targeted with the Homing Attack.

In Sonic's Episode, when Sonic has to enter Aquatic Base, the player has to ring the three Hanging Bells in Soleanna Castle Town to lower the gate blocking the entrance to Aquatic Base's Mirror of Soleanna. However, the bells will stop ringing after a while, and if the player does not have them all three ringing at the same time, the gate will not unlock.

Sonic Generations[]

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, the Hanging Bell appears in Speed Highway. Like in Sonic Adventure, hitting the bell will release a limited number of Rings.

Trivia[]

  • The Hanging Bell in Sonic Adventure is floating on its own and is not being held up by anything.
    • The Autodemo of the same game has a silver hanging bell instead of golden.
