The Boa-Boa^[1] (ボアボア^[2], Boa-Boa^?), also spelled Boa Boa^[3] or BoaBoa,^[4] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, worm-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.

Appearance[]

Based on worms, the Boa-Boas have purple and gray armor and a body consisting of nine segments, with the head on one end and a small tail on the other. Except for their head, all the Boa-Boas' body segments have hatches on both lateral sides that spit out flames.

Sonic Adventure[]

In Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, the Boa-Boas appear in the following Action Stages for each character:

In gameplay, the Boa-Boas constantly glide gracefully through the air, spouting puffs of flame from their sides. In Sonic's chase, the player can attack a Boa-Boa from above or below using the Homing Attack when it is not spitting flames (doing so will damage Sonic). Hitting any segment on a Boa-Boa will blow the entire Badnik up. When playing as E-102 Gamma, the player can take advantage of the Boa-Boas; for each body segment the player locks onto and hits, they are granted a Time Bonus. Upon destruction, a Boa-Boa will release an Animal.

Sonic Rivals[]

In Sonic Rivals, the Boa-Boa appears as a collectible card.

IDW Publishing[]

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, two Boa-Boas were among the group of Badniks attempting to avoid Sonic, Tails, and Belle's stolen escape aircraft after Metal Sonic used his V. Maximum Overdrive Attack to destroy said aircraft.^[5]

Trivia[]

• The Boa-Boas' name may be allusion to boas, a family of non-venomous, constricting snakes.
  • Ironically enough, the Boa-Boa is confirmed to be based on worms rather than snakes.^[4]
• The appearance of the Boa-Boas is somewhat similar to the Catakiller, Jr. and Fireworm.
