"Fist Bump" is the main theme of Sonic Forces and is composed by Tomoya Ohtani. It is performed and written by Douglas Robb of Hoobastank.[2] It is a rock song, and tells of the friendship between Sonic and the Avatar.
Background[]
A piano version was arranged by Yutaka Minobe and performed by Koji Igarashi. A short version also plays when Double Boost is active during Tag Team stages and during the stage, Null Space, and an instrumental version plays when Sonic/Classic Sonic turns into Super Sonic/Classic Super Sonic. An alternate instrumental version plays during the game's first stage, Lost Valley, as well as when Classic Sonic gets the Invincibility power-up, during the final phase of the Death Egg Robot.
Legacy[]
In Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, the Lost Valley remix plays during the tracks set in Green Hill, and the instrumental version plays when using the Super Form power-up as Super Sonic or Movie Super Sonic. "Fist Bump" can also be heard in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when playing on Green Hill Zone or Windy Hill Zone. In Sonic Speed Simulator, the Lost Valley remix plays in Lost Valley, and after the Symphony Showdown event, this remix is unlocked in the music player by default. After Update 1 of Sonic Frontiers, a Sound Memory unlocking the regular version of the song for the Juke Box can be found on Kronos Island.
Lyrics[3][]
- I can't do this alone
- Even though I am strong
- Need something more than me
- Someone to push me to victory
- Let's see what we can do
- Together, me and you
- Can't be afraid to try
- Kiss your fears goodbye
- No looking back
- You and I, we're on the attack
- Full speed ahead
- Running to the sunset
- Such a different feeling
- Both of us believing
- We can make it better
- Together we can show the world what we can do
- You are next to me and I'm next to you
- Pushing on through until the battle's won
- No one’s gonna give a thing to us
- Into each other we put our trust
- Standing united, after the fight
- All alone, we will never be
- The two, of us, are holding the key
- We see, today, a world we couldn't see
- Before I say goodbye to you
- One more last fist bump...
- I know you have been afraid before
- But you don't have to be anymore
- No more emptiness to feel inside
- When we work together no one can break up our stride
- No looking back
- You and I, we're on the attack
- Full speed ahead
- Running to the sunset
- Such a different feeling
- Both of us believing
- We can make it better
- Together we can show the world what we can do
- You are next to me and I'm next to you
- Pushing on through until the battle's won
- No one’s gonna give a thing to us
- Into each other we put our trust
- Standing united, after the fight, is done
- We can show the world what we can do
- You are next to me and I'm next to you
- Pushing on through until the battle's won
- No one’s gonna give a thing to us
- Into each other we put our trust
- Standing united, after the fight
- It's a brand new day
- We have turned the page
- I never knew how much I needed
- Somebody to help me this way
- All alone, we will never be
- The two, of us, are holding the key
- We see, today, a world we couldn't see
- Before I say goodbye to you
- One more last fist bump...

Trivia[]
- "Fist Bump" is the second highest amount of re-occurring leitmotif based off of a vocal theme song in any Sonic the Hedgehog series video game behind "Reach for the Stars" from Sonic Colors, followed by "His World" and "Knight of the Wind" from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and Sonic and the Black Knight, respectively.
- Sonic Frontiers' "Break Through It All" contains a motif from "Fist Bump," during the verses "don't stop, we're on a mission, overdrive and overrun the competition," as well as "we can't pretend to listen, sorry if it puts you in an imposition."
- Part of the theme for the Egg Reverie Zone in Sonic Mania has a very similar melody to the chorus of this song. This is fitting, considering that the ending of Sonic Mania leads to Sonic Forces.
- Tee Lopes, the composer of Sonic Mania's soundtrack has also released an unofficial remix of "Fist Bump" on his YouTube channel, shortly after the official version was first revealed.
- The verses "Standing united, after the fight is done" and "Such a different feeling, both of us believing" has the same melody as Seaside Hill's music from Sonic Heroes.
