Hassan Nadir is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Secrets and Lies". He is a Saudi diplomat and terrorist financier who attempts to hunt down his wife Aaliyah in order to punish her for defecting to the US.
He is portrayed by Navid Negahban, who also played Shadow King in Legion, Dr. Challus Mercer in Dead Space, Al-Owal in Arrow, Abir in Dead Air, Abu Nazir in Homeland and Arash Kadivar in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Biography[]
As a Saudi diplomat, Nadir was behind financing various terror groups in order to take down the USA. He also regularly beat and raped his wife Aaliyah, and abused his children Dalia and Faris. In order to get revenge on him, Aaliyah contacted CIA agent John Summers and gave him information on her husband's terrorist activities. In 2006, Summers arranged for Aaliyah, Dalia and Faris to defect to America, faking their deaths in a car accident, but Nadir discovered the truth from his mole in the CIA Bruno Hawks, and followed them to America.
"Secrets and Lies"[]
Nadir and Hawks break into Summers's house, where they tie him down and torture him while interrogating him on Nadir's family's location. However, Summers refuses to give them up and Hawks executes him, staging his death as a suicide. When Special Supervisory Agent Jason Gideon of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) hears of the death, he calls Hawks and tells him Summers didn't kill himself, allowing Hawks to manipulate the BAU into helping him find Aaliyah under the guise of stopping Nadir. Eventually, Hawks discovers that Nadir's family are hidden in a shipping container in Baltimore and passes the information on to Nadir, who heads to the dock to kill them.
Nadir manages to reach the dock before the BAU and forces Aaliyah to come out at gunpoint, preparing to shoot her. However, BAU Agent Derek Morgan and CIA Agent Gina Sanchez arrive and interrupt him. Nadir tells them he has diplomatic immunity, but Morgan replies that the container has not passed through customs, therefore he is not technically on US soil, making his immunity void.
Just then, Sanchez disarms Morgan on orders from Hawks and asks what to do next. Hawks tells him to kill Morgan, but she tells him to cut visual communication first in order to remove evidence of the assassination. After Hawks complies, Sanchez reveals she knew he was the mole and has just tricked him into revealing himself, firing the shot into the air. Nadir is promptly arrested by the CIA.
Trivia[]
- Nadir is inspired by Sayyed Bozorg Mahmoody, an Iranian doctor who forced his wife Betty and daughter Mahtob to reside in Iran with him against their consent, subjecting Betty to domestic violence until she fled back to America with Mahtob.
