“ | If we were smart, Ellen, we'd partner up. We could drive across the country, just killing people. I'd get my little girls, and you could get, y'know, whoever you wanted. Wouldn't it be great to live in a world where no one judged you? I wouldn't judge you, baby. I would have your back. C'mon, whaddaya say? | „ |
~ Nelson trying to seduce Ellen Russell into being his killing partner. |
Jason Nelson is a supporting antagonist in the Criminal Minds episode "The Pact". He is a serial child rapist and murderer who becomes the target of vigilante murderers Ellen Russell and Darlene Beckett.
He is portrayed by Brandon Keener, who also voiced The Speaker in XCOM 2.
Biography[]
As a teenager, Nelson kidnapped, raped, and murdered a little girl; afterwards, he buried her body, and kept an article of her clothing as a trophy. He went on to kill at least two other little girls.
In college, Jason joined the track team and was friends with Mark Logan, Paul Montgomery, and Bryce Phillips. One day, Jason, Mark, and Paul were smoking marijuana when one of them (likely Jason) asked the others if they had ever been with a little girl. This conversation ultimately led to the three men kidnapping an 8-year old African American girl named Kelly Taylor. They took her to a forest, where they gang-raped her. Afterwards, Jason killed her, dismembered her body, and buried it in pieces.
Mark was arrested for drug possession, but the cops also found Kelly's underwear in his car, leading to his being charged for her rape and murder. But, since the police had no body, they could only sentence Mark for kidnapping and drug possession, which was only 10 years. While Mark was serving his sentence, both Jason and Paul visited him frequently to make sure he didn't rat them out.
"The Pact"[]
In 2012, Mark is released from jail, but is soon murdered by Kelly's mother, Darlene Beckett, and Ellen Russell, who are systematically killing those responsible for Kelly's murder and the death of Ellen's nephew. Before they kill him, Mark gives up Jason and Paul as his accomplices. They soon murder Paul as well, and Jason realizes that the vigilantes will likely get to him. As a precaution, he moves Kelly's body, so he can use it as leverage if necessary. He also tells his neighbors to call the police if he suddenly disappears.
Sure enough, Darlene and Ellen go after Jason. They kidnap him, and Jason tries to talk his way out of danger by claiming to be a "changed man"; when that doesn't work, he offers to take them to the location of Kelly's body in return for sparing his life. He directs them towards the burial site, all the time taunting Darlene about failing her daughter and trying to seduce Ellen into becoming his partner in murder.
Eventually Ellen becomes enraged by his taunts, and stops the car to beat him up. Darlene, wanting to find the body, stops Ellen from killing him. Taking advantage of the situation, Jason tries to use his leverage to get Darlene to kill some random person. But Darlene refused, so Ellen takes the gun and shoots at a passing truck, severely wounding the driver.
They finally arrive at the dump site, and Ellen forces Jason to dig up Kelly's body. He digs and finds Kelly's skull, causing Darlene to realize that he dismembered her. Finally having had enough, Darlene beats Jason to death with the shovel.

Trivia[]
- Jason is inspired by multiple real-life criminals:
- Joseph Gardner, the longest active fugitive of a group responsible for a gang-rape and murder of a woman.
- Reginald McFadden, a recidivist rapist and serial killer guilty of an elderly woman's murder with accomplices, being the last to be arrested once sold out by the rest of the group. McFadden committed rape and murder again after being released.
- Orlando Hall, the primary rapist and killer of Lisa Rene, a teenage black girl who was kidnapped, gang-raped, and bludgeoned to death with a shovel, then buried in a grave in a park.
- Marvin Gabrion, a suspected serial killer convicted of the murder of a previous rape victim. Gabrion is suspected in the murders of numerous missing people, whether tied to the rape and trial or to Gabrion's past.
