In Pikmin Kart, Red Pikmin are items commonly found from item boxes. After being thrown or dropped, a Red Pikmin will attempt to affix itself to the closest kart in its range, slowing that kart more than other Pikmin would. Because Red Pikmin won't detach from a kart that drives through a fire geyser or other fire source, exposing them to other hazards or swerving wildly are the only ways to force them off. As with all Pikmin items, the Whistle item not only protects a kart from Pikmin attacks but also allows the Whistle's user to take a Pikmin item for themselves to use.

Rare Red Pikmin, also known as Dark Red Pikmin, are one of the species variations of Pikmin in Pikmin: A New Journey. Rare Red Pikmin are slightly bigger and stronger than ordinary Red Pikmin, and like all rare Pikmin variations, have small freckles under their eyes. These ones have a tail, which they use in battle, and have flame-patterned petals. Like normal Red Pikmin, Rare Red Pikmin are immune to fire, and resist the attacks of the Blaze Bulborb. Unlike the other rare variations of Pikmin, which can be ejected from their respective candypop buds, the Red Onion exclusively has a chance of ejecting a Rare Red Pikmin seed instead of that of a normal Red Pikmin. If one idles long enough, it might briefly bounce on its tail.
Notes
Olimar's notes

“ | Look, Olimar! It's the Red Pikmin. Do you remember them? Of course you do, why did I ask that? They seem relatively the same since we last came to this planet. My scanners detect that they can survive scalding temperatures from a variety of sources, and have increased strength. Hopefully these Red Pikmin will be a valuable asset in recovering our debt! | ” | – The ship, upon discovering the Red Pikmin |
---|
Red Pikmin are a returning type of Pikmin in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They are one of the first types to be discovered, as per tradition in all of the Pikmin series. However, notably, they are not the very first type to be discovered, as that spot has been taken by the Blue Pikmin. Like most Pikmin types, the Red Pikmin has an obtuse head and small body, with two stubby legs and feet with three toes, along with two arms with hands that have four fingers. They have two eyes with white sclerae and large, black pupils, and a tall stem on the top of their head that can sprout into a leaf, bud, or flower. The Red Pikmin, as their name implies, has red skin, and most notably, a small, pointy nose on their face. Their voice is a lot more energetic-sounding, like they are pumped up and ready to fight. They have their own Onion, the Red Onion, which can be merged into the Master Onion. To create more Red Pikmin without an Onion, throw other Pikmin types into a Crimson Candypop Bud. When an ultra-fiery spray is used, although only captains can utilize the main ability, Red Pikmin gain a slight power boost from it.
The Red Pikmin has many abilities that make it a key asset for fighting the ferocious creatures found on PNF-404. Mainly, it has double the attack damage, as opposed to normal damage that other types inflict. When they attack in large groups, they can easily overwhelm enemies with their quick hits and massive damage output, making them deadly threats on the battlefield. This trait is most seen in a phenomenon found in large groups of Red Pikmin known as "Flames of the Warrior", indicated by Red Pikmin emitting a faint, red glow. This effect only takes place when seventy-five or more Red Pikmin are on the field and actively engaging an enemy or obstacle. This perk will cause the Pikmin to move slightly faster, and add a bit more to their damage multiplier.
Aside from fighting capabilities, the Red Pikmin is also immune to three hazards frequently encountered on PNF-404; fire, high temperatures, and lava. Red Pikmin can survive scorching hot flames, which can be found from hazards or enemies. This means enemies coated in flame like the Fiery Bulblax, or enemies that spew flame like the Fireball Snitchbug, are at a major disadvantage when fighting Red Pikmin. Other Pikmin types that are lit aflame by these enemies can be extinguished if idle Red Pikmin are nearby, as they will run up to their comrades and whack the flames out. Red Pikmin can also survive pools of lava and lava attacks. They can swim in lava, meaning they can easily engage lava-dwelling enemies like Fiery Wollyhop. This gives them the advantage over Rubber Pikmin, which can survive and deflect some fire and lava projectiles but aren't immune to lava pools. They cannot save Pikmin that enter pools of lava, however, as those Pikmin are immediately incinerated and killed upon entering. Their third major resistance is hot temperatures. They are unaffected by hotter areas, like some parts of The Badlands, around pools of lava, or some sublevels in caves. Any other Pikmin are usually weakened and sluggish when exposed to these hot temperatures. However, their main weakness is blue fire, which is mainly found in Overlord mode. This hazard will incinerate all Pikmin that touch it except for Red Pikmin, who are only lit aflame by the hazard. Thankfully, most enemies that use the hazard only use it for short periods of time, still making them beatable.
In Overlord mode, Red Pikmin are not as powerful as before but still retain all of their hazard immunities.
Notes
Data file #1: Red Pikmin can deal huge amounts of damage in groups, try awakening their fiery aura!
Data file #2: Red Pikmin can survive flames from hazards and enemies, making them useful for taking them out.
Data file #3: If another Pikmin is lit ablaze by flames, idle Red Pikmin can extinguish them.
Data file #4: Red Pikmin can survive scorching lava, whether from creatures or from lava pools.
Data file #5: Scalding temperatures are nothing to Red Pikmin!
Data file #6 (Overlord mode): Although they won't be incinerated instantly, Red Pikmin can still be harmed by blue flames.
Olimar's notes
- “Red Pikmin, like most Pikmin, come from the Ambuloradicis class, which are creatures that exhibit plant-like characteristics. These Pikmin have a cellulose within the muscle fibers on their skin which allows them to withstand the most brutal of heats. Well, all except for blue fire, which I have yet to see any Pikmin type survive... if only...
Red Pikmin seem to deal much more attack power in groups, almost as if they are fired up when surrounded by their brethren in battle. Perhaps, this species enjoys fighting, instead of just seeing it as a necessity for survival and propagation of its species. But that's nonsense! Right...?”
Louie's notes
- “Cannot eat... but I bet they would taste spicy.”
President’s notes
- “Red Pikmin! If only my workers would move as diligently as these little guys. I wonder if they could survive on Hocotate. They can definitely survive the heat, that's for sure! At least, I hope they can. It gets way too hot over there, especially when I'm trying to save on Hocotate Freight savings by cutting funding for air conditioning... Curse you, mysterious burglar!”
Overlord’s thoughts
- “In my quest to move the Pikmin to Posy Island, I am facing off against these small insects. They keep hitting me when I try to move them to Posy Island! It's like the sting of a wasp... it hurts a LOT.”

Besides Purple Pikmin and Bulbmin, Red Pikmin are the only Pikmin that can take on fire sources and are the only Pikmin able to be able to destroy pillars. Additionally, their attack power is at least three-quarters that of Purple Pikmin, which they are faster than. Red Pikmin should not be used as fodder for candypop buds because of their usefulness both outside of and within dungeons.
Notes
In-game entry
- “The first Pikmin I had ever discovered, the Red Pikmin, are unquestionably my greatest friends. For whatever reason, they always seem the first Pikmin to come to my aid. Separating them from all other Pikmin species, they have a long nose that is used to conduct and absorb heat from the surrounding air and then channel it throughout their body. Though most likely originally evolved for the purpose of keeping warm in cold environments, this nose can also be used for purposes like that of lightning rods: if the Pikmin is immersed in scorching flame, its nose absorbs the heat and channels it into the ground without the Pikmin itself suffering even a slight burn. The Pikmin's heat-absorbing capabilities give it an amazingly high metabolism, allowing in to attack with power that would be far too energy-demanding for other Pikmin types. A new ability that was just recently discovered is their capability to destroy solid marble pillars, which has lead me to believe that they are actually a separate species of Pikmin entirely, just with the same colouration and abilities. If this is the case, then I wonder where my old Pikmin friends are?”

Red Pikmin are the first Pikmin to be discovered in Pikmin: Together Forever, as they are in front of the leader from the start.
Red Pikmin are immune to fire and being drained and do not die from explosions. Red Pikmin are found in the starting area, jumping to catch their Onion, which is tangled in a vine above their reach. One of the Pikmin runs over to the leader and jumps excitedly. It makes a noise and points at the Onion. Two more join in, leaving only two Pikmin still determined to jump for the Onion. When all five Pikmin are latched onto the Onion, it will fall, freed. Red Pikmin are not required to progress any further in the area for the time being after that, as they're only needed to free their Onion and push a bag out of the way.
Red Pikmin are found in clusters rooted in dirt and under foliage throughout the Sun-Speckled Yard. They are also found in the Blossoming Citadel, the Garden of Hope, the Twilight River, and the Scorched Domain.
Red Onion locations are:
- At the beginning of the game;
- Buried on an isolated bit of dirt surrounded by lava in the Scorched Domain;
- Stuck in a tree in a tree hidden off to the left side of the Scorched Domain;
- Completely hidden in the ground, found only through Oatchi's scent-sniffing, on a rock just off the side of the west coastal area in Seaside Peninsula.
Red Pikmin can be powered up into Ember Pikmin by using a Cauliflower's spray.

Red Pikmin are thirty-three millimeters tall and have a carrying capacity of three while under the effects of ultra-sour spray.
Notes
Captain Olimar's notes
- “It is still a mystery how these Pikmin have immunity to fire. My hypothesis is that this species of Pikmin creates a liquid that covers and protects them from fire. More fieldwork needs to be done to prove this right or wrong.”
Tang's notes
- “These little fellas are stronger than the rest of the types, making them excellent for fighting. Put that together with a leader who has experience in battle, and their apparent resistance to fire, and you have a combination that is unstoppable in battle!”
Robin's notes
- “My research of these little guys has brought me to the conclusion that they are great at most objectives. Whatever you put them to do, they'll perform a good job at it, which will allow for a more efficient day. Keeping that in mind, it is still best to bring other Pikmin types if they are available.”

Jade's notes
- “Red Pikmin / Pikmin family / The Red Pikmin have a bright red color of no other Pikmin. The stem on the Red Pikmin's head has a strong muscle, allowing it to attack with power. It has an organ within its body that produces a blood cell I call "Fireum". It goes to the muscle, allowing it to not take any burns from fire. To them, it's like taking a bath!”
Topaz's notes
- “These little guys have a nice firey red color to them! They have a nose, unlike any other Pikmin! They also have a sturdy stem just like the others!”

Red Pikmin are a main Pikmin species discovered in Pikmin: Wide World, specifically in Lonely Quarry, a den in Frigid Tundra. They are fireproof and heat-resistant and can dish out more damage than most Pikmin types. Red Pikmin have an above-average attack power, and average mobility, throw range, and digging speed. A Red Pikmin's defining features are its pointy nose and white petals. They have the standard Pikmin voice, but sound a bit fierce most times. Other Pikmin types can be converted into Red Pikmin by throwing them into Crimson Candypops.
Red Pikmin can extinguish ignited Pikmin by patting them with their stem and flames by stamping them out. It is reasoned that Red Pikmin have a higher-than-average attack power because of their nose, which jabs into enemies they hit.
Notes
Data file #1 (all difficulties): Red Pikmin resist fire and high temperatures.
Data file #2 (all difficulties): Red Pikmin are effective in battle as they have above-average attack power.
Data file #3 (all difficulties): If nearby Pikmin are burning, a Red Pikmin can extinguish them.
Olimar's comments
“This pikmin is a fierce one, always ready for conflict, and delivers quite well in that regard. The nose-like appendage on its face pokes into whatever it strikes with its stem. The red pikmin is also resistant to extreme heat, befitting its fiery disposition.”
Shacho's comments
“These little guys have somehow always been the first we find, until now. But, they're still ready as ever to follow my– OUR command! If only Olimar, and Louie bless his soul or lack of one, could have a fire inside them like there is inside these pikmin...”
Marie's comments
“There's a passionate warmth the red pikmin have that I can't help but admire. And it isn't just because they're feisty. It's because they're driven, more than any other pikmin I've met so far.”
Louie's comments
“...Could I even cook these?”
Dolphin Lander's comments
“I don't mean to sound cliche, but I think these pikmin are my favorite of all of them. They're just so iconic! If only we would have found them first, rather than yellow pikmin...”
