Family Amphituber

Wolpoles, formerly known as Wogpoles, are harmless amphitubers that resemble tadpoles in appearance and behavior. They are typically hard to get and yield little reward. While being chased, Wolpoles may sometimes accidentally beach themselves, flopping about helplessly until they land safely back in the water.

Notes

Olimar's observations

These little creatures stay in the water where they're safe, and I mean that. They really are safe when they're in the water. They swim so fast even Blue Pikmin can't keep up! My best bet when fighting them should be to try cornering them or making them get washed up on land.

Cookin' with Louie

Wogpoles can be eaten raw, but they're much more flavorful when steamed or grilled. Also heavenly in risotto! Feel free to experiment with this lush ingredient.

The Wogpole is a returning species of amphituber in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature resembles its original variant in Pikmin 3. The Wogpole will swim around until spotted, whereupon it will swim away frantically. It may occasionally beach itself and flop around until it gets back in the water.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Wogpoles are usually only found in lakes. After a Wollywog lays up to a hundred eggs, those eggs will hatch into small Wogpoles. Unfortunately, they are usually food for other fish and creatures; but those who survive can begin to mature into Young Wollywogs. Sometimes, Wogpoles look different depending on the species. The blue version of the Wogpole belongs to the Yellow Wollywog.

Louie's notes

A Wogpole is best eaten raw to obtain its true flavor. A pinch of salt is recommended.

President’s notes

I remember that when I was on the lam from debt collectors, I would collect small tadpoles in a jar and watch them swim around. It’s these memories that make this trip bearable.

These Wolpoles are more of a nuisance than an actual threat... – The ship, upon discovering the Wolpole

The Wolpole is a returning species of amphituber that appears in Pikmin: Pitstop. Since they are the immature form of a Wollyhop, they resemble tadpoles, having a bulbous, dark green body with two protruding eyes with white sclerae and black pupils. The Wolpole swims around at high speeds using its long, light green tail.

The Wolpole can be found in water or may fall from above in some cave sublevels. When approached in water, the Wolpole will swim away at high speeds, as they tend to avoid Pikmin. This can be especially annoying, as Wolpoles that swim into Pikmin carrying objects will cause the Pikmin to be knocked back. If the Wolpole accidentally swims out of the water, it’ll become beached, and flop around until it ends up back into the water.

Wolpoles are harmless, and generally not worth going after due to their low seed count. But if necessary, sending a group of Blue Pikmin is the best course of action, as they can quickly swim in the water to pursue the amphituber. Any other Pikmin type can defeat beached Wolpoles.

Notes

Louie's notes

The Wolpoles look like they can be eaten raw, but Olimar told me to stop eating the creatures from this planet... so not today. I guess the Pikmin get to have them instead.

Overlord’s insight

As you can see, this is a Wolpole, or an immature form of the Wollyhop. There are two variants I have seen, and Captain Olimar has seen as well. There’s this dark green variant, which belongs to the Wollyhop. But the blue variant with whiskers, which are rarer to come by, belong to the Yellow Wollyhop. The Yellow Wollyhop is pretty exotic, so I can see why these Wolpoles are quite rare.

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers, Wogpoles act exactly as they do in Pikmin 3. The main difference is that they are now active prey items in areas where they share their habitat with Water Dumples and Vortexive Paimourses, though nearby Yellow Wollywogs will be quick to step in and protect their brood if this happens.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Without the very legs that give wollywogs their abilities, wogpoles are as helpless as a fish out of water. It is thought that because of this, their parents display a bizarre pattern of directionless hops near the riverbank to drive away predators such as blue pikmin, water dumples, and vortexive paimourses. Wollywogs spawn in the early spring, and set their eggs on aquiferous plants rather than in the water so to keep them out of reach from predators.

Louie's notes

Chipped wogpole meat tastes best when added to a four-cheese risotto dish for protein. In truth, however, the critter is highly versatile, and perhaps the best option is the one you discover off the beaten path.

Ship's comments

I don't hate them as much as their parents (or anything else on this planet, really). However, seeing their inky silhouettes darting across the deep rivers of this planet gives me a strange, inexplicable phobia normally only felt by meatbags such as Hocotations.
