PikminFanon:About
Pikmin Fanon is a fan website about the Pikmin series. Its purpose is to give Pikmin fans a place to write about their related fan ideas as if they were real, and document real, playable fan content, both in a professional, organized manner. Pikmin Fanon is a member of NIWA, the Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance, a collaboration of independent Nintendo-oriented wikis.
History
Founding
Pikmin Fanon was created on November 1st, 2008 by Rocky0718. At its creation, our wiki was known as Pikcanon-NOT and hosted by Fandom, known then as Wikia. It was originally designed to be a collection of fan creations for the now inactive Pikmin Wars online message board game. Soon, Pikmin Fanon began to draw popularity, and several fan games were created, most notably those of the Buildup trilogy. This led Pikmin Fanon astray from its original intended purpose, becoming the wiki we know today.
Independence and Pikmin Fanon
On September 14th, 2010, Pikmin Fanon, along with our sister wiki Pikipedia at the time, separated from Fandom to become independent. The wikis were accepted into NIWA on October 8th of the same year. In this, our wiki's name officially changed from Pikcanon-NOT to Pikmin Fanon.
Grifkuba
In the middle of the year 2020, PorpleMontage, the host of Pikmin Fanon at the time, decided to close the wiki due to the rising costs of hosting it and the little activity it received. Long-time users of the site were heartbroken, but, behind the scenes, a new host was found: Grifkuba. Grifkuba remained Pikmin Fanon's host for over 2.5 years, until late 2022, when Pikmin Fanon and some other NIWA affiliates separated from it due to various concerns with its operations and discovered a new host: System Theta.
Project Clean-Up
Officially organized in 2021 by Trig Jegman but spearheaded by Cheepy-Cheepy a few years prior, Project Clean-Up is a dedicated effort to clean the then-unbelievably disorganized Pikmin Fanon. Many have contributed, and despite all the progress made, Project Clean-Up is still ongoing. To much surprise, there was a Project Clean-Up long before the current one, although it was far less successful and ambitious, consisting of only a few simple, and then-unfinished, tasks.
Present
As of now, Pikmin Fanon has 6,106 articles and 19 active users. Users can create fangames and new Pikmin types, enemies, areas, upgrades, and much more. To maintain order on the wiki, Pikmin Fanon also has several policies and guidelines and a multitude of help pages. Users can also read the Beginner's Guide to help them become acquainted with Pikmin Fanon.
