Hazard

Panic refers to any non-lethal hazard that causes Pikmin to disperse from the squad and scatter in random directions. Panicking Pikmin are not in any direct danger but risk running into a more dangerous hazard or an enemy. A panicking Pikmin can be returned to normal by whistling it. In Pikmin 2, Pikmin in a panic will recover differently from panic depending on the exact source, either after a certain time or upon being whistled, and Purple Pikmin are immune to it no matter what. In Pikmin 3, panic visually affects Pikmin, and though they spread out in random directions, they will eventually stop panicking on their own. Purple Pikmin are not immune to ink or phosbat powder, two sources of panic in Pikmin 3.

Effects Causes panic

Panic is a returning hazard in Pikmin 2... Again?. It is caused mostly by loud noises and Mitites but has other sources. It causes Pikmin affected to scatter and run about uncontrollably much like when they are affected by a hazard such as fire, during which they can scramble into other dangers. However, rather than die after a certain amount of time, affected Pikmin will calm down on their own and become idle. Using the whistle will calm them down prematurely and cause them to return to the leader. Panic can also be caused by ink, the Vehemoth Phosbat's dust, and the Blooming Sliturnip's pink gas. Ink has a unique visual effect on affected Pikmin, with ink covering their face except for their eyes, while the Vehemoth Phosbat's dust and Blooming Sliturnip's gas simply engulf their stem. Due to being non-elemental, panic isn't resisted by Glow Pikmin. However, Purple Pikmin are resistant to it because they are fearless.

Panic

Panic is a hazard appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It causes Pikmin to scatter, running around in random directions but usually away from the source. Affected Pikmin stop when soothed by a whistle, calling them over, but eventually calm on their own, leaving them idle. While harmless itself, panic can cause Pikmin to run blindly into other dangers. Except in special cases, Purple Pikmin and leaders are resistant. Leaders can indirectly cause Pikmin to panic if they are the sole leader of a squad and are downed.
