Super Mario Mario Strikers

Giant Red Shells are a recurring object in the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3.

Description[]

Aside from being a larger size, Giant Red Shells are the same as a Red Shell. Giant Red Shells have a Green Shell counterpart known as a Giant Green Shell, which they function very similarly to.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Bros. 3[]

Giant Red Shells are worn by red Gargantua Koopa Troopas and red Colossal Koopa Paratroopas, both of which are only encountered in Giant Land. Like regular Koopa Troopas, Mario or Luigi can jump on one of these enemies to have it retreat into its shell. Like Red Shells, Giant Red Shells can be picked up and kicked.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[]

Giant Red Shells retain their functionality from Super Mario Bros. 3, but they can now break through Hard Blocks without bouncing off.

Super Mario Maker/ Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2[]

A Giant Red Shell is once again worn by each red Gargantua Koopa Troopa, which can be created by giving a Super Mushroom to a Red Koopa Troopa. Unlike earlier Super Mario installments, Giant Red Shells cannot be picked up and thrown.

In Mario Strikers series[]

Giant Red Shells, along with Red Shells, appear as an item in Super Mario Strikers and Mario Strikers Charged. A Giant Red Shell essentially functions the same as a Red Shell, but with the added advantage of being larger. Upon being used, a Giant Red Shell homes into an opponent, squishing and stunning them temporarily, after which the Giant Red Shell continues to roam around temporarily before disappearing.
