Not to be confused with Podoboo.

Hot Foots (also pluralized Hot Feet and alternatively spelled Hotfoot) are Podoboo-like creatures which appear in the castle levels of Super Mario Bros. 3. They spawn on candle flames, wait for Mario or Luigi to not look at them, and then start walking towards them. Hot Foots derive their name from the word "hotfoot," which in Britain is an adverb that means hastily but in the U.S. is a noun referring to a prank where someone sticks a match between another person's feet and then lights it. If Mario or Luigi touches a Hot Foot, he takes damage. A Hot Foot can only be defeated by hitting them using either the Hammer Suit or Starman, upon which the player earns 100 points.

Hot Foots first appear in Super Mario Bros. 3. In this game, they are seen in the various fortresses found throughout the game such as the Water Land and Giant Land Fortresses. They are commonly found in long corridors with not much going on. A Hot Foot appears as a mere candle but as soon as Mario/Luigi approaches the candle, the flame from the candle hops off, revealing itself as a Hot Foot. The Hot Foot will slowly walk after the Plumbers damaging them on contact. Like a Boo, if the Plumbers look at a Hot Foot, it will freeze in it's tracks and remain perfectly motionless until the plumbers look away. Hot Foots aren't so bad alone but can be somewhat annoying when multiple start showing up. A Hot Foot can be defeated with the effects of either a Hammer Suit or Starman.

Trivia[]

  • Hot Foots combine the characteristics of Podoboos and Boos as they are living fire creatures like the former but stop when looked at like the latter.
