A Big Podoboo is a larger variation of the Podoboo. They behave almost identically to a normal Podoboo except they're larger. Big Podoboos are sometimes seen hopping out of lava pits just like their smaller counterparts however there are some Big Podoboos that resemble a flame rather than an actual fireball and can actually survive on land. Big Podoboos have been involved in several minigames found throughout the Mario Party series.
History[]
Mario Party[]
Big Podoboos make their debut in Mario Party. In this game, they are seen in the minigame Hot Rope Jump. Two Big Podoboos are seen swinging a rope of smaller Podoboos. The Big Podoboos swing the flaming Podoboo rope as players jump over it. Whoever is hit by the swinging Podoboo Rope loses and those that make it to 20 jumps win the game.
Mario Party 2[]
The Big Podoboos return in Mario Party 2 appearing in the returning minigame Hot Rope Jump, their role is very similar to how it was in the previous game but this time, the Podoboos and the Big Podoboos start out blue and turn orange after 4 jumps. The Big Podoboos swing the flaming Podoboo rope as players must constantly jump over it. Whoever is the last player standing is the winner.
Mario Party 3[]
Big Podoboos make a return in Mario Party 3 this time with an entirely new role. They appear in the 2 VS 2 minigame Hyper Hydrants. During the minigame, two Big Podoboos are standing on the two metallic podiums spewing smaller Podoboos at either team. The two teams must work together with their respective teammate to douse out the Podoboos with their firehoses attached to the fire hydrants. Once the minigame is over, the Big Podoboo dissipates and whichever team put out the most Podoboos is the winning team.
Mario Party 8[]
A Big Podoboo makes an appearance in Mario Party 8 in the minigame Lava or Leave 'Em. During the minigame, as the players jump on the rock platform to escape the lava, a Big Podoboo hops onto the platform. As the minigame progresses, the Big Podoboo will split itself into smaller Podoboos which get smaller and smaller as they split covering more of the platform giving players less room to avoid the Podoboos whoever can survive the longest amongst the moving Podoboos is the winner.
Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2[]
Big Podoboos also appear in Super Mario Maker as well as it's two sequels. Here they can be produced by applying a Super Mushroom to a normal sized Podoboo, Big Podoboos appear in all of the games' themes and behave identically to normal Podoboos (jumping out of lava or pits) with the only difference being is that their larger size makes avoiding them slightly tougher. Big Podoboos can also emerge from Pipes or Bill Blasters but due to their size take some time to emerge.
Paper Mario: Color Splash[]
A single Big Podoboo also appears as a mini boss in Paper Mario: Color Splash fought in Redpepper Crater. When Mario arrives at the Big Podoboo's area, it emerges from the lava angry at the arrival of the uninvited guests (Mario and Huey). A Shy Guy also arrives and translates what the Big Podoboo is trying to say to Mario and Huey. During the battle, the Big Podoboo can attack by turning red and shooting out a fusillade of flames, causing damage to both Mario and the Shy Guy. He can also attack by flying at Mario, just like normal Podoboos, doing 15 HP of damage. The Big Podoboo is immune to both jumps and hammers (the latter of which he can melt away) but is vulnerable to ice-based attacks. Iron Jumps, Hurlhammers, and Things are also ideal to use when battling the Big Podoboo, the Big Podoboo has 170 HP.
Mario Party Superstars[]
Big Podoboos also appear in Mario Party Superstars in the returning minigame Hot Rope Jump. The two Big Podoboos in the minigame reprise their role from the first two games, holding a flaming rope of smaller Podoboos and swinging it around requiring players to hop over the swinging rope, just like in Mario Party 2, the Podoboos start out blue and then become red as the minigame progresses, players will need to jump the rope without touching a Podoboo, if players are hit by the swinging flaming Podoboo rope, they will be eliminated effective immediately, the game keeps going until one player is left, the last player remaining is the winner.
Trivia[]
- Due to their size, Big Podoboos are also capable of melting Hammers as shown in Paper Mario: Color Splash when Mario tries to hit one with a Hammer, this would suggest that the Big Podoboos are made of a stronger fire than a standard Podoboo.
