Mario Strikers Charged (known as Mario Strikers Charged Football in Europe) is the second installment of the Mario Strikers series and a sequel to Super Mario Strikers for the Nintendo GameCube. The game was originally released for the Wii in 2007, and was reissued as a downloadable title for the Wii U in 2016. The original Wii version was also re-released as a Nintendo Selects title in 2011.
Gameplay[]
Mario Strikers Charged is a soccer game featuring intense, physical action. There are two teams, each consisting of a captain, three sidekicks, and a goalie, which is always a Kritter. Each team has to score a goal, which occurs if a captain or sidekick kicks the ball into the soccer net. Meanwhile, the role of each team's goalie is to try and block the ball from entering the goal. The opposing team can steal the ball by performing moves such as tackling and slide-tackling. The characters (except the goalie) can also use items to assist them, and they can obtain them by either using a charge shot or by being tackled while they are not in possession of the ball.
Every captain has their own Mega Strike, which replaced the Super Strike from Super Mario Strikers. If a captain performs their Mega Strike correctly, they could possibly score up to six goals in one hit. Captains also have their own Super Ability, which they can use from obtaining a special item depicting own head. Sidekicks can perform a tactic known as the Skillshot, allowing them to use a powered-up shot that gives them a better chance at scoring a goal.
Unlike Super Mario Strikers, the soccer ball is made of metal and has its own power level. Indicated by the color of the glow, the shots of the ball become more quick and powerful the more active it is, therefore making it easier to score goals with. The ball starts out as a purple ball, but when a character passes the ball to a sidekick, it changes color, up to a white ball. Whenever the ball gets stolen by an opponent, it downgrades to a purple ball.
Modes[]
Mario Strikers Charged has four different modes:
- Road to the Strikers Cup: A single-player tournament mode in which the player's character is challenged by various teams across three cups.
- Domination Mode: A mode supporting up to four players. It is basically a mode for those who want to just play a quick game of soccer. Any team combinations are available, and players can choose which of the two teams to play on.
- Striker Challenges: Consists of a series of missions or simple challenges designed to practice one's skills.
- Nintendo WFC Mode: A mode that allowed players from across the word to compete against others over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but it was only possible to compete against others in the same continent as them to reduce lag. Ever since Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was discontinued on May 20, 2014, the mode is no longer playable.

Captains and Super Abilities[]
There are twelve available team captains to choose from, nine of whom are available from the start while the other three have to be unlocked. In addition, each captain has their own Super Ability.
The following are available from the start:
- Mario (Super Mario!)
- He can make himself giant and stomp on others. It can also boost his shooting with the ball. It is similar to his Mega Mario ability from New Super Mario Bros..
- Luigi (Super Luigi!)
- It is the same move as Mario's move Super Mario!, making Luigi giant.
- Peach (Freeze Frame!)
- Peach can trap foes with a single camera shot, leaving them frozen for a few seconds.
- Daisy (Crystal Smash!)
- Daisy summons orange crystals from the ground. Whomever comes in contact with the crystals will be sent flying in the air. The opponents will be stunned for a few seconds.
- Yoshi (Egg Roll!)
- Yoshi hops onto a giant egg and begins running over foes in the field.
- Donkey Kong (Thunder Wham!)
- DK can pound his fists on the ground and hit nearby foes, and can even tilt the screen whether which side he does it.
- Waluigi (Wall-Luigi!)
- Waluigi can make a wall of thorns behind him, blocking foes and even the ball.
- Wario (Gas Mask!)
- He releases nauseous gas (which is limited), which confuses all surrounding players, disorienting the player by temporarily inverting the controls.
- Bowser (Fire Storm!)
- Bowser can breathe fire in the field that sends everyone running on fire.
The following must be unlocked:
- Bowser Jr. (Sonic Roar!)
- Bowser Jr. roars, sending out small sonar waves in front of him that temporarily shrink and stun anyone who touches them, slowing their movement speed as well. This is similar to the Thunder Bolt item from the Mario Kart games.
- Diddy Kong (Red Card!)
- Diddy creates a vertical beam of light that lasts for about three seconds. Anyone who steps into it except Diddy himself is sucked out of the field for about 15 seconds.
- Petey Piranha (Mud Slinger!)
- He is able to vomit three balls of goop onto the ground 4 times in front of him, stunning anyone it hits. The goop stays on the floor and slows down anyone and anything that runs through it except Petey himself.
