During Macedon's invasion of Aurelis, Minerva discovers a group of Macedonian defectors raiding a village and a group of Aurelian cavalry repelling them. Minerva decides to join forces with Hardin to quell the deserters, but sends Palla of the Whitewings for reinforcements. The ensuing battle results in Hardin and Minerva's victory and the death of the leader of the deserters, Ruben. Palla arrives with the reinforcements, having defeated the remaining deserters, and informs Minerva that the man with whom she fought was Prince Hardin of Aurelis.

In Archanea Saga, both of the villages reward Vulneraries for visiting them; these are notmeans required, but they may be desired as healing is greatly limited initially. Every unit except Catria and Est can reach the village before the Thief does. Of the enemies near the start, the Thief does little to no damage to anyone, the Archers move away and can safely be ignored, and the Cavaliers can do decent damage but cannot double. The biggest threat is Horsemen; they have high movement and can threaten a wide area, they have high enough speed to avoid being doubled, and they deal significant damage to Minerva, Est, and Catria—enough to one-shot Est and leave the other two very vulnerable in the beginning.
The central clump of Knights all do 5 damage to Minerva, who can double them with a Silver Lance and one-round them, allowing her to deal with most of the group so long as she is not in range of an Archer as well. Ruben moves to attack any player unit he can reach, but most of the area he can move to is also within range of Knights, Archers, Horsemen, and Cavaliers. There is an area near where Frost starts where he can reach, and thus be lured away from the rest of his army and taken out with Wolf, Minerva, and Hardin; however, as Dracoknight could randomly appear from the gate, and whomever was luring Ruben would be attacked by two units—at base, Minerva could take both hits and survive with 4 HP.
Seizing the gate does not end the chapter, but it does provide whoever seizes it with a Vulnerary; by the time that someone can safely seize the gate, the Vulnerary will likely be unnecessary.
Trivia
- In the original Archanea Saga, you can visit the castle to the right of the map to save a girl (pictured); supposedly the same one kidnapped at the start of the chapter. The New Mystery of the Emblem remake however, does not let you visit the castle or see the girl (aside from in the opening).
