“ | Talys was a small border kingdom, with no grand order of knights to boast of[.] | ” | — Opening narration of Chapter 1 |
---|
The Kingdom of Talys (Japanese: タリス Talis) was a young and shortlived member of the Seven Kingdoms of Archanea. It was founded by Mostyn, who would be its only king, and it is situated in the Outerlands (Japanese: 辺境の国々 Borderland Countries) region of Archanea.[1]
Geography
Talys is an isolated island located far east of Archanea in the Outerlands region. It lays north of Pyrathi Ocean and east of Galder Ocean;[2] with Galder's Harbor-town being the nearest port to Archanea's mainland for Talys.[3]
With Talys's position on the continent, its existence was largely uneventful to the mainland; many residents of the Palace knew it as a barbarian-filled kingdom, with others being ignorant of its existence entirely.[4] Despite this, it came to benefit of Talys's citizens and the refugees of Altea, since Dolhr remained unawares of Marth's asylum there for two years.[5] It being an outlaying island of Archanea also limits its military to that of mercenaries, lead by Captain Ogma.[6]
History
Prior to it being named a monarchy, Talys was home to a number of warring indigenous tribes. Mostyn, a young man recently appointed the title of chieftain in his small clan, sought to cease the conflicts Talys suffered and instead shape it into a kingdom of peace.[4] By A.C. 579,[7] with the assistance of his close friend Lorenz, Mostyn came out victorious in unifying the warring tribes into a single kingdom under his rule.[8]
In A.C. 602 during the War of Shadows, Prince Marth of Altea and his knights fled their country after it fell to Gra and approached Talys to seek refuge from the Dolhr Empire.[7][5] Marth and his men were sent to Talys's eastern fortress, biding their time in hiding. For two years, Dolhr had turned a blind eye to Talys; that was until A.C. 604,[7] where the Dolhr-allied Galder pirates[9] launched an assault on the nation lead by Gazzak. Accompanied by Mostyn's daughter Caeda, Marth's army successfully drove off the invasion. In its aftermath, following the advice of Mostyn, Marth would head for the mainland and build a resistance army against Dolhr's grip on the world.
After the War of Heroes, Mostyn's only heir, Caeda, married Marth, and thus absorbed Talys into the Archanean Alliance in A.C. 609.[7]
Notable locations in Talys
Talys Castle
Talys Castle (Japanese: タリス城 Talis Castle) is the capital of Talys located to Talys's west. During the War of Shadows in A.C. 604,[7] it was raided by the Galder Pirates lead by Gazzak. Caeda managed to withdraw from the castle to travel to Talys's eastern fortress and request for Marth to aid in saving Talys and her father;[10] of which he ultimately succeeds.[11]
Eastern fortress

The eastern fortress (Japanese: 東の砦 eastern fortress) is where Marth and his knights resided in hiding from Dolhr for two years after King Mostyn offered it to them in A.C. 602.[12][7]
