Sylveon (Japanese: ニンフィア, Hepburn: Ninfia) (SIL-vee-on[1]) is a Fairy‐type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It is one of the eight final forms for Eevee, an evolution resulting from leveling up with high friendship while knowing a Fairy-type move or in the case of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y after getting two levels of Affection.

Biology
Physiology

Concept art of Sylveon.
Sylveon is a quadrupedal, mammalian, feliform Pokémon with white colored fur covering most of its slender body. The top of its head is a vibrant shade of pink, and it has long pink rabbit-like ears with dark blue insides. Sylveon has a short, blunt cat-like muzzle and a small black nose. Sylveon's has pink and white bow-like features on its right ear and around its neck. Attached to the bow-like appendages are prehensile ribbon-like feelers with pink and blue tips that curl around the Pokémon's body. It has four slender legs, small pink-tipped paws, and feet with three visible toes on each but no visible claws. Sylveon has two large cyan eyes with white pupils and two pointed teeth on its upper jaw, seen when its mouth is open, similar to Umbreon. It has a fluffy pink tail that curves inward slightly to form a crescent shape, possibly a reference to the moon phase.
The Shiny variation has its coloration reversed, with blue and red fur (replacing the pink patches and the blue in its ears) and reddish-pink eyes.
Behavior
Known as a gentle Pokémon, Sylveon use their ribbon-like feelers to hold hands with their Trainers and walk alongside them, enabling them to sense their feelings. Sylveon uses its Cute Charm Ability to hunt in the wild. They can bring even the most intense battles to a halt by using their feelers to exude an aura of peace and tranquility, causing any Pokémon near them to quickly lose their fighting spirit, before Sylveon strikes a powerful and unexpected attack.
Like other Eeveelutions, Sylveon are heavily implied to be carnivorous according its Pokédex entries.
When riled-up, Sylveon will become fearless and will not hesitate to strike, no matter how large its opponents are. Galarian fairy-tales have depicted tales of Sylveon defeating ferocious Dragon-type Pokémon (matching the fact that Dragon-types are at a disadvantage against Fairy-types).
Similar to Espeon and Umbreon, Sylveon are most commonly found in urban areas, as it relies on humans to evolve it from Eevee with strong friendships. They are extremely rare in the wild, as with any Eeveelution in general.
Natural abilities
Sylveon can exude a peacefully soothing aura from their ribbon-like organs to tranquilize their foes or prey. They can wrap and strangle quarrelers with their long extensible, prehensile feelers as well.
Evolution
Sylveon is one of the eight possible evolutions of Eevee. It evolves into a Sylveon when leveled up knowing a Fairy-type move and gaining at least two Affection hearts in Pokémon-Amie or Pokémon Refresh. Starting from Generation VIII, it evolves via high friendship with a Fairy-type move.

Appearances
Anime
Sylveon first appeared in the short film Eevee & Friends. Sylveon also appeared in "Kindergarten Chaos!", which belonged to a woman named Penelope. In the episode, it battled against Ash's Froakie and won after using the move Draining Kiss on Froakie, who had already been hit by Attract earlier in the battle, enthralling him with love. Sylveon, along with Pikachu, was later captured by Team Rocket and rescued by Ash and Randell. It was last seen with its trainer waving goodbye to Ash and his friends.
Valerie used a Sylveon against Ash's Fletchinder during the Gym battle.
Serena's Eevee evolved into a Sylveon during a tag battle at a dance party in "Party Dancecapades!".

Trivia
- Since Generation VI, Sylveon remains the latest evolution of Eevee in the Pokémon franchise.
- Sylveon is the lightest Eeveelution.
- Sylveon was the first Fairy-type Pokémon revealed in the series, excluding Pokémon that had their type changed upon its introduction.
- Sylveon is the only cross-generation Eeveelution not to be introduced as a pair with another Eeveelution.
- Sylveon is the only Pokémon introduced in Generation VI that is an evolutionary relative to a Pokémon from a previous generation.
- The Pikachu short "Eevee & Friends" was specifically created to promote Sylveon as the then-new addition of the Eevee family, as it marks its debut in the anime.
- Sylveon is one of three Eeveelutions that Eevee evolves from strong friendship, alongside Espeon and Umbreon. Unlike the two, however, its evolution method is not based on the time of day.
- Unlike the games, in Pokémon the Series, Sylveon can use its feelers as an extra set of "hands", have long reach and are powerful weapons, giving this Pokémon an advantage in battle, protecting its Trainer or performing tasks unlike the other members of the Eeveelution chain.
- Despite being shown as very peaceful in its Pokédex entries alongside its trophy description in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U as well as being told its ribbon-like feelers bring peace, in Generation VII, it is said that its ribbon-like feelers are used as a form of hunting and strangling prey.
- Its ability to use its feelers to calm fights is mentioned once again in its Pokémon Sword Pokédex entry.
- Sylveon is the only Eeveelution with light colored eyes.
- Sylveon was designed by Atsuko Nishida, who also created all of the Eeveelutions except for Jolteon and Flareon.
- Sylveon ranked 6th, among all Pokémon, in the official Pokémon of the Year 2020 poll by The Pokémon Company. It also ranked 2nd among all Kalos Pokémon.
- In the anime, much like in the games, it is stated that Eevee evolves into Sylveon if it has a strong bond with its Trainer.
- In New Pokémon Snap, Sylveon's cry is distinctly similar to that of a domestic cat's meow.
Origin
According to Motofumi Fujiwara, a key person at Game Freak, Eevee was based on a vague childhood experience he had. He described seeing an "indefinable creature" and that Eevee was based on a drawing of all that he could remember of it. Despite itself resembling various small animals, Eevee wasn't actually based on any distinct animal, with Fujiwara mentioning that the Pokémon reminded him of a fluffy cat or dog-like creature. All of its evolutions are based on the same design but are made to resemble their specific type.
Sylveon's overall appearance appears to take inspiration from cats and rabbits, being feline in general physiology, and possibly the Asian Moon Rabbit due to fairies being known for their activity under moonlight. The Asian Moon Rabbits are also known for being companions with Chang'e, a Chinese moon goddess that wears a robe with many ribbons, which may be the inspiration for Sylveon's ribbon motif.
Etymology
Sylveon comes from sylvan - meaning of the forest, due to legends of fairies residing in forests - and eon - a long period of time. Its name may also derive either from sylph or sylvan, both of which share the Latin root silva, the Latin word for forest. In mythology, forests are often depicted as places where fairies and nymphs can be found.
Its Japanese name, Nymphia, comes from nymph, a fairy-like deity that resides in certain landforms.
