Tatsugiri (Japanese: シャリタツ, HepburnSharitatsu) (TAHT-soo-gee-ree[1]) is a Dragon/Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Tatsugiri are small fish-like Pokémon. Sometimes they may rest on what appears to be a bed of "rice", which is actually their throat sac, making them look very similar to sushi.

Curly Tatsugiri have an orange underbelly with the top part (and their fins) being darker in color. Shiny Curly forms are much darker in appearance while still retaining the orange shading.

Stretchy Tatsugiri are completely yellow. Shiny Stretchy forms are orange in color similarly to the Curly Form, but they also have stripes of yellow across their top.

Droopy Tatsugiri are scarlet-crimson in color, with the top fin and the top part of their pelvic fin being white in color. Shiny Droopy forms are completely white.

Behavior[]

Tatsugiri are capable of accommodating to their environment in three forms, which have their own pose and colors. They are very intelligent Pokémon who work with the less intelligent but more powerful Dondozo to hunt food, of which they prefer bird Pokémon. They are known to play dead, feign weakness and camouflage themselves to catch prey and avoid predators.

Dondozo treats Tatsugiri like a boss, following them around loyally in return for food which Tatsugiri plans a hunt for. Tatsugiri can normally go about on its own, but they tend to live inside Dondozo's mouth as a way to protect themselves from enemies.

Natural abilities[]

Tatsugiri have the ability Commander; when paired with a Dondozo in a Double Battle, the Tatsugiri will leap into Dondozo's mouth, increasing all of its stats by two stages. This also prevents Tatsugiri from being attacked, however it will be unable to partake in the battle until the host Dondozo is defeated. Tatsugiri also come with Storm Drain which makes them immune to Water-type attacks and increases their Special Attack if struck by one.

Evolution[]

Tatsugiri does not evolve.

Curly Form: This is a small dragon Pokémon. It lives inside the mouth of Dondozo to protect itself from enemies on the outside.
Droopy Form: This species’ differing colors and patterns are apparently the result of Tatsugiri changing itself to suit the preferences of the prey it lures in.
Stretchy Form: Bird Pokémon are its main prey. This Pokémon knows it’s weak, so it hunts with a partner.

  • Violet

Curly Form: Tatsugiri is an extremely cunning Pokémon. It feigns weakness to lure in prey, then orders its partner to attack.
Droopy Form: This Pokémon tricks its opponents by playing dead. It is small and weak, but it uses its smarts to survive.
Stretchy Form: It's one of the most intelligent dragon Pokémon. It camouflages itself by inflating its throat sac.
