Klink (Japanese: ギアル, HepburnGiaru) (KLEENK[1]) is a Steel-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Biology[]

Physiology[]

Klink is a small two-headed metallic Pokémon that resembles a set of gears. It slightly resembles Magnemite and Magneton, except it appears to consist of two spinning gears. Both gears are identical and have an X for the right eye. Each gear's other eye is open and round with a black pupil, and it has a greenish dome-shaped center that appears to be its nose and a round, open mouth.

Natural Abilities[]

It can have Plus or Minus as its regular Ability, which boosts the stats of allies that has its counterpart Ability in a Double Battle. Its hidden ability is Clear Body which prevents any off stats from being lowered.

It can launch any of the 2 gears that make up its body-like projectiles when using Gear Grind or Shift Gear. It generates energy via spinning.

Behavior[]

Klink are extremely close knit to the extent that they should not be separated at any cost. Klink have only appeared in the past 100 years, making them a relatively new Pokémon species to emerge.

Evolution[]

Klink evolves into Klang at level 38, then into Klinklang at level 49.

Trivia[]

  • It was suggested that people modelled gears after Klink. The opposite happened in real life, since Klink is based off gears to the extent in Japan it is just called gear.
  • Its line is the first pure steel type since Registeel.
  • This Pokémon was revealed along with six other Pokémon in July's issue of CoroCoro on June 11, 2010, making one of the first regular Pokémon announced for the 5th Generation.
  • Along with Dratini, Larvitar, Remoraid, and Trapinch, Klink is one of the few basic-stage Pokémon able to learn Hyper Beam.
  • Klink seems to be the only Pokémon N uses in more than one battle. He uses Klink once and Klinklang in the final battle against him. All of his other Pokémon, he used once and released.
  • For some reason, Prof. Juniper's father praises the player for finding a Klink in the Chargestone Cave even though Klink are quite common and some trainers, including N, use a Klink in the cave.
  • Klink represents June on the Unova Horoscope.
  • It is not known if Klink is in-universe the name of a character in a Unovan historical sitcom.

Origin[]

Klink is based on a set of gears that interlock. As for the specific gears they are based on, they are either spur, helical or herringbone. Its Shiny coloration appears to be based on copper gears due to their noses turning green, something that happens to copper during chemical reactions. It may also be based on the perpetual motion machine trimmed down.

Etymology[]

Klink comes from clink, a metallic sound. It may also include link, as the two gears that make up Klink are connected together.
