    Trivia[]

    • Toedscool is tied with Claydol for having the highest base Special defense of Ground type Pokemon.
    • Toedscool's base stat distribution is identical to Tentacruel's.
    • Toedscool is named "OKAGYARADOSU" in Scarlet and Violet 's game code, suggesting it may have been a convergent evolution for Gyarados.

    Origin[]

Toedscruel is based on a wood ear mushroom. It looking similar to Tentacruel is based on the idea of convergent evolution, where two separate organisms independently develop similar characteristics. The reasoning behind the choice of a mushroom based Tentacruel may be due to the wood ear being named 木耳 / キクラゲ kikurage , which roughly translates to "tree jellyfish". In addition, the orbs on Toedscruel being pink may imply they are based on some fungi's guttation droplets, which is simply oozing sap from the xylem (which plants use to carry water). Toedscruel and its pre-evolution are also evocative of sentient mushrooms and fungi based lifeforms, sometimes depicted as horror film monsters, from movies such as Matango.

    Etymology[]

Toedscruel's name is based on Tentacruel, with elements of Toed (having toes) and toadstool (as it is a mushroom).
