Mario Strikers Super Mario

Electric rails are a recurring object in the Mario franchise. They first appear in Super Mario Strikers.

Description[]

Electric rails are barriers which can electrocute whoever touches it.

In Mario Strikers series[]

In Super Mario Strikers and its two sequels, Mario Strikers Charged and Mario Strikers: Battle League, electric rails appear around every soccer field, except for Mario Strikers Charged's Thunder Island, and surround the fence of the playing field. If characters get tackled into an electric fence, they become electrocuted temporarily. The fence is transparent until a character touches it. Some options allow for either electric rails to be disabled or for them to shock the player's character if they are even nearby.

In Mario Party series[]

Mario Party 9[]

An electric rail generated through a series of pylons, having nearly an octagonal shape, surrounds the ring in the minigame Bumper Sparks, in which the object is to hit Bowser Jr. into the electric rail three times to defeat him and therefore win. The playable characters do not have a health meter, so they do not lose health from touching an electric rail, but doing it still stuns them temporarily.

In Super Mario series[]

Super Mario Galaxy[]

Electric rails appear in several galaxies, including Good Egg Galaxy, Flipswitch Galaxy, Sweet Sweet Galaxy, Battlerock Galaxy, Ghostly Galaxy, Bowser Jr.'s Airship Armada, Toy Time Galaxy, Sand Spiral Galaxy, Deep Dark Galaxy, Dreadnought Galaxy, and Bubble Blast Galaxy. An electric rail's beams are either colored light green or red.

Electric rails occasionally move horizontally throughout the galaxy, and touching it results in Mario or Luigi being electrocuted. If Mario or Luigi lose a life from touching electric rail, they are usually seen becoming a skeleton. This effect briefly occurs whenever Mario or Luigi take damage from an electric rail.

In some galaxies, an electric rail can be deactivated by either stepping on Flipswitch Panels, hitting a Spiky Topman with a spin attack into them, defeating it as well, or defeating an Undergrunt Gunner. Regardless of which direction the camera faces, the reflection shown on the spheres of an electric rail is always exactly the same.

In Dreadnought Galaxy, there are beams of electricity that act similarly to electric rails, and they are used to defeat Spiky Topmen and Spring Topmen.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[]

There are electric rails in World 6-NSMBW Airship Sprite, during the battle against Bowser Jr.. Here, the player's character must knock Bowser Jr. into the fence three times to defeat him. If the player's character is either pushed into the rail or touches it, they take damage.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[]

Green electric rails appear in Flip-Swap Galaxy, Bowser's Lava Lair, Space Storm Galaxy, Upside Dizzy Galaxy, Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker, Clockwork Ruins Galaxy, Bowser's Galaxy Generator and Grandmaster Galaxy, while red ones only appear in Bowser Jr.'s Fearsome Fleet. Electric rails act the same as in Super Mario Galaxy, except Mario or Luigi no longer becomes a skeleton if he loses a life from an electric rail.
