Pegasus Knight

From Fire Emblem Wiki, your source on Fire Emblem information. By fans, for fans.

The Pegasus Knight (Japanese: ペガサスナイト Pegasus Knight) is a flying, pegasus-mounted class which debuted in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, and has appeared in every Fire Emblem series game to date except Engage, in which the class is instead divided into three separate weapon-specialist classes: Sword Flier, Lance Flier, and Axe Flier. It is replaced in the standard gameplay of Fates by the otherwise identical Sky Knight class, but the Pegasus Knight class itself is available via promotional downloadable content. In almost all of its appearances, it is a basic class which promotes to the Falcon Knight in most cases; the exceptions are Thracia 776, in which it is instead an advanced class, and Fates, where (like all other DLC-exclusive classes) it is a special class capable of reaching level 40. In all appearances they wield lances, except when dismounted in Thracia 776.

Unit type(s)
  • Flying (all titles)
  • Infantry (replaces Flying when dismounted; Thracia 776, Three Houses)
  • Beorc (Path of Radiance)
  • Beast (Awakening)
Weapon(s)
  • Lance, Sword (Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776)
  • Lance (all other appearances, specialty in Three Houses)
  • Various (Three Houses)
Skill(s)

Among basic classes, Pegasus Knights are rather frail and somewhat lacking in HP, strength and defense, but compensate for it with unusually high resistance for a physical unit, high speed and skill, and excellent mobility unhindered by terrain penalties. As the archetypical flying unit, they like all others possess a distinct vulnerability to bows and, depending on the game, some or all wind magic tomes. While in general risky to use for these shortcomings, Pegasus Knights will typically overcome their statistical flaws with leveling and prove to be rewarding to use; they are particularly efficient at combating magic-wielding units with their high resistance, and at rescuing allied units quickly.

In Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light and Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights instead promoted to Dracoknights; the Falcon Knight was introduced in Gaiden and became the Pegasus Knight's standard class changed form from Genealogy of the Holy War onward. Other class change options have existed for Pegasus Knights throughout the series: The Sacred Stones gave them an alternative promotion choice with the Wyvern Knight, as did Awakening with the Dark Flier. In the remakes Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem, Pegasus Knights can promote to either Falcoknight or Dracoknight depending on the class change item used, with Dracoknight being more common. In Thracia 776, the Pegasus Knight functions as the promoted form of the Pegasus Rider instead. In two games they have the ability to dismount: in Mystery of the Emblem they become Knights when dismounted, and in Thracia 776 they merely become a dismounted version of themselves; in both cases, they are forced to use only swords while dismounted.

Trivia

  • In Gaiden, Pegasus Knights are internally the same class as Gargoyles; whether a unit is a Gargoyle or a Pegasus Knight is determined by its affiliation.
  • Radiant Dawn is the only game in which Pegasus Knights are unplayable, even though their advanced forms, Falconknight and Seraph Knight, are playable.

Pegasus Knight

In Greek mythology, and common modern fiction by extension, a pegasus is a mythical winged horse. Shortened as Peg Knight in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, Pegasus Kn. in The Sacred Stones and Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Pegasus Kn in Path of Radiance, and Peg. Knight in Shadow Dragon due to space restrictions.

Japanese

ペガサスナイト

天馬騎士ペガサスナイト

• Officially romanized as Pegasus Knight; this katakana rendering is used in all appearances.
• P. Knight. Known by this abbreviation in Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Gaiden, and the battle GUI of Mystery of the Emblem due to space constraints.
• Officially romanized as Pegasus Knight. In Radiant Dawn, all Japanese class names are spelled primarily in kanji (i.e. 天馬騎士), with a foreign-language name in katakana applied as furigana (i.e. ペガサスナイト) and used as the basis for the romanized name in the class roll. Additionally, most Japanese dialogue mentions of Pegasus Knights in other games in the series also prefer to use the kanji name 天馬騎士 instead of the katakana.
