—The Miletos villager talking about Hilda
Hilda is a major villain from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. She is the wife of Duke Bloom of Friege, the daughter-in-law of Reptor, the mother of Ishtar and Ishtore, the sister-in-law of Tailtiu and Ethnia, an aunt to Arthur, Tine, Amid and Linda, and a descendant of the Velthomer royal family.
Profile[]
Hilda is introduced as the wife of Bloom and the dictator/queen of Miletos. While outwardly loyal to Bloom, it is also implied that Hilda married him for the money and power she could obtain.
Despite sharing familial ties with Tailtiu, Ethnia, Tine and Linda, Hilda absolutely despises them all. This lead to her abusing them, causing Tailtiu or Ethnia to succumb to the mental torture they sustained. This is implied to be rooted in Hilda's enjoyment in inflicting suffering. She also willingly supports the Child Hunts, orders Ridale to kill escaping children, and hopes for Ishtar to wed Julius as soon as possible, all for her own selfish gains. She is thus said to not possess a soul, as her actions are both cruel and merciless. Hilda will ultimately be slain by Seliph's liberation army in the final chapter of the game.
Personality[]
Perhaps known as one of the cruelest women in the whole franchise, Hilda is sadistic, cruel and also materialistic, aiming to gain more power for herself and subjecting cruel fates to whoever she does not like. Her sadism is shown where without any influences of the Loptr Church, she wholeheartedly supports the Child Hunts to get an official excuse to torture and murder people. This is something that even her husband Bloom is hesitant about, showcasing her extreme cruelty.
Heroes, however, makes an attempt to "humanize" or "explain" Hilda's actions and personality without toning down her cruelty. As it turns out, Hilda does possess love towards her own family, even if it's just to prep up the prestige of the house she's in. She never directs her anger to Bloom despite their different opinions on the Child Hunts, and she actually respects her father-in-law, Reptor. It may factor to why she subjects Tailtiu/Ethnia to horrific tortures; aside from personal enjoyment, Hilda is angered that Tailtiu/Ethnia dared to play a part in the death of her father-in-law and shaming the house she revered. As Seliph marches through Grannvale, more and more of her respected family members die, leaving Hilda to be even more unhinged and crueler in her own anger. She occasionally drinks to forget her sorrows whenever she's not being actively cruel towards others.

Hilda is fought twice, once in Chapter 10, and another in the Final Chapter. She is extremely powerful with a whopping attack power of 50. This is thankfully offset by the fact that Bolganone is a heavy tome, lowering her attack speed by a significant amount.

- Queen of Friege

Hilda is a member of Jugdral's House Velthomer, descendants of the magic-wielding crusader Fjalar.
She married the reigning Duke of Friege, who ruled the Grannvale Empire's territory in northern Thracia, and later gave birth to two children.
Hilda's response to Grannvale's liberation army led by Seliph was cold-blooded, to say the least. Not even Tailtiu, her sister-in-law, escaped her cruelty, and this ultimately led to Tailtiu's death...
Hilda carried out her orders without a second thought, even when they were as inhumane as the child hunts. Despite her cold nature, she also has a natural aptitude for fire magic, making her even more of a dangerous threat to the forces that opposed her.

Etymology[]
Hilda is one of several female given names derived from the name Hild, formed from Old Norse hildr, meaning "battle". Hild, a Nordic-German Bellona, was a Valkyrie who conveyed fallen warriors to Valhalla.
Trivia[]
- In her Endgame appearance, Hilda erroneously has major Dáinn Holy Blood, instead of her actual minor Fjalar blood. The "Project Naga" fan translation corrects this error.
- The minor boss character, Lamia, strongly resembles a younger Hilda, and has a similar sadistic personality.
- While Hilda doesn't appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, she was referenced by Masahiro Sakurai in the presentation for Byleth's reveal as a DLC character for the game. While noting the Golden Deer that appear on the Garreg Mach Monastery stage, he notes that Three Houses' Hilda and Claude share their names with Genealogy of the Holy War characters.
