—Elm to Ash in Book VI, Chapter 1.
Elm is a character from Fire Emblem Heroes who first appears in Book VI. He is a batlike being that serves as retainer to the goddess Embla, who tasked him with ending Askr's bloodline.
Profile[]
Elm is sent to Midgard by Lady Embla as part of her plan to wipe out Askr's bloodline. He began closing off villages in darkness in both the Emblian Empire and Askr as an offering to Lady Embla. Askr sent his retainer, Ash, in return, who Elm defeated shortly after her arrival. She's saved by the Order of Heroes, forcing Elm to retreat back into Embla. At one point, Elm began working with the director of the Curse Directive, Letizia, closing off villages strategic for her so the two of them can later perform the Rite of Closing.
After the Order leaves Yggdrasil with the Yggdrasil Key in order to free Veronica from Embla's control, the group encounters Elm again where he mocks them. Since he entered Askr's realm earlier in an attempt to stop the ritual, he gradually grows weaker which Ash points out. Despite putting up a hard fight, Elm eventually falls but Ash spares him as she sees that his loyalty to Embla is similar to her loyalty to Askr and respects that. His ultimate fate is left ambiguous following Embla's defeat.
Forging Bonds[]
Depths of Despair[]
Sometime after Embla's defeat, Kiran, Alfonse, Sharena, Anna and Ash are investigating a slew of border villages in between Askr and Embla to make sure that Embla's presence won't pose a threat to both kingdoms. However, during the investigation, Kiran gets pulled into the darkness, where Elm later found them unconscious. After a failed attempt to wake them up, Breidablik suddenly malfunctions and summons Fallen versions of Chrom, Maria and Anankos along with a version of Byleth where Sothis had gained total control.
Eventually, Ash finds the two, and finding the newly summoned Fallen Heroes to be even too much for him, Elm helps Ash get Kiran to safety while the four look for them. During this time, Ash reveals to Elm that Askr and Embla have left their world which Elm doesn't believe at first. The two also theorize that the darkness that Kiran was pulled into caused Breidablik to malfunction resulting in the fallen heroes chasing after them. Eventually, with the Fallen Heroes cornering them, Ash proposes to Elm that they should combine their power to escape the darkness. Though skeptical, Elm agrees to do it and the trio exit the darkness leaving the fallen heroes behind. Later, Alfonse, Sharena, and Anna find Ash and Kiran in the village while Elm presumably landed elsewhere. Though gone, Ash believes that Elm would one day use his powers to aid the Embla Empire rather than destroy it.
Personality[]
Perhaps befitting a servant of the god of barriers, Elm is unwelcoming, aggressive and rude. He disrespects not just the Askran forces and his enemy Ash, but also Emblian heroes such as Veronica. Elm has a particular disregard for mortals, which he considers worthless scum, and is willing to sacrifice them in droves for Embla without regard for which kingdom they hail from. Elm also has a manipulative side as just by talking to her, he was able to cause Embla to turn on Askr and her own people. In spite of his disdain for mortals and personality, Elm does admit that there are lines that he doesn't cross as he considered Anankos' views and aura extreme, even for him.

The retainer to Embla, Elm fought against the Order of Heroes—but now, he's come to celebrate the New Year with us in Askr! I wonder if all the seasonal goodies here played a part in that...
Elm's celebrating in style, handsomely attired in a kimono and eye-catching headpiece for the New Year. It's certainly an impressive look, but I'm just glad that we can have fun celebrating together instead of fighting!
He's also carrying a hagoita decorated with a bat design. You know, I just realized that it's wearing the same headpiece as Elm!
We're lucky to have him visit on friendly terms, so I hope he enjoys seeing how we celebrate the New Year! But you'd better watch out, Elm—if you lose the game of hanetsuki, you'll end up getting marks painted on your face!
